Hardly a coffee bible....
There are plenty of pizza review sites out there as well.

Didn't say it was a coffee bible.
Just a link to show that some people are serious about coffee. I'm only mildly serious.

I don't wanna look at those pizza links. I don't want to spoil another area of life. I find the more educated I become about things, the more dissatisfied I am. If I didn't know how a coffee was meant to be made, I wouldn't get so worked up.
So I'm not going to find out how a pizza's meant to be made, so that I can still enjoy going to Pizza Hut. Although after one stint at Pizza Mall last night, it's going to be a no-no for me in the future. No flavour whatsoever!

To the OP, cappucino's not s'posed to have chocolate/cocoa on top either. So you like it another way, Koreans do it their way (which is not MY way either), some Americans think Starbucks is good coffee. At least we're not drinking that hazelnut sock-water shit which was all you could get a few years ago at 4,000 won and an extra chon won for milk.
Just think, it makes the going home and getting a good coffee all that much more exciting!
ps Anyone had the vietnamese coffee ---mmmmmm, vietnamese coooffeeeee....

Nothing is supposed to be nothing and all that... Understand? We is what we is and we isn't what we isn't. Nothing is supposed to be any way other than the way in which it is. Etc. etc.

In defense of Starbucks, it is a good place to study. I'm sensitive to music myself and I've gone to other coffee shops before that were playing some charming piano ballad when I went in, and then after buying the coffee and settling down, lo and behold comes BoA/Chae yeon/That boy band I hate that plays the song called One Love that didn't even bother to check the English (One love is never gettin on your depress?!?!)/whatever other trash there is. Starbucks has their own selection of music which is conducive enough to study.
Starbucks is also a good place to you if you're looking to meet a 20-something princess who can't see past her own mirror. The female/male ratio there is about 80/20. The downside is that most are either going to chat with their friends, or on a date. I saw one couple the other day that sat for a full hour staring at each other menacingly, and barely mumbled a word to each other until it was time to go whereupon they took off with great beaming smiles.
It's also a good place to go to laugh at the English teacher who has chosen to do his/her private lesson in its noisy/seatless environment and has to speak at the top of his/her voice.
It's also a good place to go for those who don't like smoke.
That being said, I've never been to that...Paccucinis? coffee shop so I'm going to have to check it out. I hope the music's good.
With all the customers, Starbucks does feel like a bit of a watering trough though. I'm still going tomorrow to hit the books. Test in a week, you see... Shocked

Yes, but my guess is that there are no businesses is France or Italy that run a business entirely on kimchi. (Whereas cafes run their businesses on coffee).

I mean, even if it's only been here a couple of years, should that really make a difference? How long would it take to learn how to froth right?
Maybe because NOBODY knows how. So it's impossible for them to make the effort because they don't realise they're doing anything wrong.

Good points. I was thinking more along the lines of the consumer when making the 'couple of years' comment- I was thinking that once the general Korean Coffee drinking public becomes aware and acquires a taste for 'proper' latte and Cappucino, they would vote with their feet and businesses would have to change to meet demand or go under. A bit naive perhaps, but to my recollection that's pretty much how the switch went from instant to fresh ground coffee in Korea.

Are there still tabangs around out there that try to charge you 2,500 for a cup of Maxim? Aside from the ones whose clientele are either 55+ or the ones who aren't really in the business of selling coffee, if you know what I mean?

This Starbucks is jammed, not a seat in the house, everybody's talking on their cellphones and just about everyone in here has fancy pants?
I thought Korea was experiencing a difficult economic moment? Looks to me like everyone is doing fine. Wow, look at that, those kids still have their school uniforms on, what day is this anyway? Saturday? Yeah, okay cool.
Maybe I should be careful when I make my order I had a lot to drink last night and the soju is still coursing through my veins. Okay , here's my moment.
"Regular coffee please"
"ang?"
"Sorry. I forgot my glasses and I can't read the sign"
"you want latte"
"yes!" thank you!" (what the f*** is latte?)
Oh my God I can almost see up that girl's skirt over there?
What is with all this sexy stuff? I think the plump took her Starbucks apron in a bit? Well it's cheap to do that here I guess.
Oh crap
"Sorry, Soju:
The young woman next to me is waving her hand and wincing.
"Last night soju" (chuckling)
Dude this is not the janitor at work, she is not getting a kick out of it.

Typical Starbucks moment.

Ok well I didn't really get most of HardyandTiny's post but hey the more the merrier.
The time to go to Starbucks is on Sunday morning. Not too many people.

Pascucci has a classier interior than Starbucks. It's kind of white, red, black, smooth, sleek. But when I was in there (Jongno3) they were playing loud dance music. I still managed to nearly fall asleep in a couch.

About the Korean Coffee Drinking Public (KCDP), how are they going to get a taste for proppar coppi?

HOw about the mug thing? Most places in Oz ask if you'd like a cup or a mug? People want the mug cos there's MORE. In Korea, they serve short coffees in mugs. Except at Pascucci. I've oly been to one Pascucci. I think that I'd better go to another one, for research purposes. Even though it's 4000won.

Intergalactic, where did you get that chocolate powder/cocoa information? Is it true?

Mug?!?
How uncouth!
It sounds like Aussies aren't much more than a step above Koreans when it comes to coffee- EVERYONE knows that a large latte or cappucino should be served in a BOWL...
Razz

But some of you must have access to Starbucks and Seattle's Best

Both are the same now as Starbucks bought Seattle's Best.
As for me, I have to be pretty desperate to drink at Starbucks; I find the coffee there to be TOOO bitter.
I tend to drink at a caf that has Lavazza, and Illy, and pay the higher prices at department stores to buy said coffees.

What part of Oz are you from?? I found in my experiences that thats true in NZ, but havent found that in OZ.... or at least not Melbourne.... people would look at you real funny in a decent coffee shop in Melbourne if you asked for a mug..... actually most decent coffee shops shouldn't even have mugs..... guess thats the difference from the coffee capital of Oz and the rest of the country

Strangely enough, I almost feel like I understand HardyandTiny's post... Shocked I go there to study as there are so many distractions. Distractions keep me from falling asleep. Studying's all about trying to fit as much information into your head before the night sets in, and being drowsy around midday doesn't help.
Are we still talking about coffee?
