Which of these cities in Gyeonggi are closest to Seoul by train.
If anyone knows and can be bothered to answer, thank you.

Many of them actually BORDER Seoul and are just a few minutes (20-30) from the central city by bus (like parts of Gwacheon, Hanam and Seongnam). The subway/train is NOT always the fastest or best way to get around.
Having said that, it can take up to an hour to get to central Seoul from some of the outlying districts that are actually IN SEOUL (like gangdong) if you are travelling by train.
Some of those places do NOT have train or subway connections to Seoul (like Gwangju and Hanam - does Yongin have a stop on the yellow line or just Suji?).
The farthest out would be Pyeongtaek, Osan and the other stops way down south on the number 1 (dark blue) line. Suwon station is 90 minutes from Seoul station by subway and it can take (depending on which train you catch) up to another hour or so to get to the Osan stops.

I was last in Bucheon and it is more or less a part of Seoul. (With train changing it takes a little bit longer to get right into the centre than the twenty-five minutes the recruiter will tell you.)
I really don't think it matters where you are within the giant circle of greater Seoul so long as you are near a subway station. (It's not like it's a city with 'nice' areas....) |

Here's what I know, others can help fill in the rest... This is assuming you want to go out in Seoul regularly....
If I had to choose, I'd probably go with Guri if they would let me get housing near Cheongyangni or Hoegi... The new train gets from Guri to those stations in about 15min for easy commuting, but Guri is a bit far to go after a night out if you live there....
Ansan
Anseong
Anyang -- a bit far
Bucheon -- not bad
Dongducheon -- too far
Gimpo -- too far
Goyang
Gunpo
Guri -- not bad, even better to live near Cheongyangni and commute
Gwacheon
Gwangju -- too far
Gwangmyeong
Hanam -- okay by bus
Hwaseong
Icheon
Namyangju -- too far
Osan -- too far
Paju -- too far
Pocheon -- too far
Pyeongtaek -- too far
Seongnam
Siheung
Uijeongbu -- pushing it, taxi is expensive if you miss last train
Uiwang
Yangju
Yongin -- maybe by bus, 30 min to Sadag Stn. |

Basically, a place which is close to Itaewon, because that's the only place I ever visit. |

Thought about Bundang?
You can hop a bus to Hannam Dong/Dankuk University and then another to Itaewon from there. |

Hwaseong - about 65minutes by bus from Gangnam. Also you can take the subway and get off at Byeongjeom (2 stops south of Suwon).
Nothing to see here though. |
