How would you rank the following positions and what would be the corresponding job position in the US? I know it's different within every company, but how would you rank them?
이사 (ee sah) = Chief Manager? or Director?
팀장 (team jahng) = Senior Manager?
대리 (dae ri) = ?
과 장 (gwah jahng) = ? |

Gwah Jahng is team leader. In a corporation, it's a middle management position. A good place to be if you're climbing up. I don't know any of the others. |

Dae ri would be the guy just above the grunts.
Shift supervisor maybe.
You have them in order of seniority/power. You should be able to fugure this out yourself. |

I think a gwahjang is higher than a daeri, no? It's confusing because there's a daeri on my team that has been with the company for almost four years...not sure how long the gwahjang has been there, but he kinda acts as if he's lower in rank than the daeri...that's why I was confused. maybe it's cuz the gwahjang hasn't been at the company that long and the daeri is very outgoing and chummy with the eesah of my team as well as our sahjang. |

Also, someone just informed me last night that ON AVERAGE, in a big corporation, it takes someone 5 years to get from daeri to gwahjang and another 5 years to go from gwahjang to teamjang.
Anyone know how much a Korean native who is a teamjang (aka a pujang) makes at a company like LG or Samsung? I guess it would depend on his qualifications such as degrees obtained and what department he works for. For ince, a guy who is a teamjang in Mergers and Acquisitions probably makes more than a guy who is a teamjang in Marketing, no? |

yep you are right..my bad. Typed before I reread it.
Gwah jang would be a department head. Last time I checked that ranked higher than the guy who lorded over the grunts. |
