Only yes or no can be your answers. No elaboration. If you feel the need to qualify or get clarity on the questions--kindly don't participate.

You can interpret the questions and put emphasis on any word or concept you want. There are obviously many vantage points these questions can be digested from. Pick the one closest to your views as if you were in a philosophical conversation with someone.

But remember--only yes or no for each question please.

1. Are you an animal?

2. Do you know where your thoughts come from?

I concur with Itaewonguy.

Merlot, wouldn't it be easier to pose this as a poll question?
You could do it in four options:

1. Are you an animal? Yes. Do you know where your thoughts come from? Yes.
2. Are you an animal? Yes. Do you know where your thoughts come from? No.
3. Are you an animal? No. Do you know where your thoughts come from? Yes.
4. Are you an animal? No. Do you know where your thoughts come from? No.

Yes, but since the questions require no additional text there would be anonymous responses (or duplicate responses for identification) and this would alter the data.

Wouldn't you like to know who answers no and yes, or no and no, and why (in a subsequent separate post )?

Nope. Cause it seems like a trap.

Point taken, especially since the OP (me) didn't give his answers.

Mine are:

1. Are you an animal? No

2. Do you know where your thoughts come from? Yes

Explanations come later.

Merlot, I think you are making a few mistakes.

■ Anonymity helps a poll. If every respondent has to reveal his identity, you will tend to limit your poll to the boldest respondents. This will hurt your validity, because you don't know how bold people compare with timid people on your variable.

■ It hurts your validity to tell how you would vote. You are likely to get people to vote the same way you did, just to be nice. Or, on the other hand, you are likely to get people to vote opposite the way you did, just because they enjoy the Devil's advocate game.

It has long been the bane of national polls that Republican pollsters tend to get Republican responses and Democrat pollsters tend to get Democrat responses. In fact, the respondents seem to sense which pollsters are which, even with the pollsters doing their dangdest to conceal their own opinions.

■ I'm not sure what exactly you want. At first, I understood that we were not to editorialize, but later, I understood that we WERE to editorialize. These may be interesting questions to discuss, but a discussion will affect the votes. Whoever gets the latest word will be likely to sway the current votes. If you want to know what opinions people hold BEFORE logging onto this thread, that will hurt your validity.

At any rate, good luck.

I totally understand what you're saying, but this is not a conventional poll by any stretch, nor did I ever refer to it as one. And it is indeed for the bold. That's why I encourage people to pass if they have concerns you mention.

And no one has to explain their answers if they choose not to, but that will be later, perhaps tomorrow. .

And my answers have no more significance than any others.

And as far as what I want--I want to see what happens. And this is happening now, so thats interesting,

No, I just had a feeling someone would overlook the stipulation. No harm done. This is just for fun or perhaps intellectual stimulation anyway.

It's not like this is anything other than Dave's Off Topic Forum.

Thanks for editing.

I suddenly feel under pressure in explaining my answers. The only way I'm going to be able to support my thoughts is in essay form. It's nearly 2 AM here in Costa Rica, so maybe if there is enough interest those that feel compelled to explain their thoughts can do so in about 24 hours from now.
