Was that part of the thread to see how long it took some nib to write his reasoning. |
No, I just had a feeling someone would overlook the stipulation. No harm done. This is just for fun or perhaps intellectual stimulation anyway.
It's not like this is anything other than Dave's Off Topic Forum.
Thanks for editing.
I suddenly feel under pressure in explaining my answers. The only way I'm going to be able to support my thoughts is in essay form. It's nearly 2 AM here in Costa Rica, so maybe if there is enough interest those that feel compelled to explain their thoughts can do so in about 24 hours from now. |
Well, you did start the thread. There's no pressure but I'm sure a couple of us could make our way over to Costa Rica to find you and get the answer, if it's not forthcoming..... |

do tell as soon as you see fit. I've been considering Costa Rica as a little real estate investment, but have little knowledge there. |

It's close to 4:30 PM here in Costa Rica and it's raining like hell. So, I've been working on an essay to try and articulate my no and yes response. In Korea it's approaching 7:30 AM.
I'll post my essay tonight around midnight--3PM Sunday in Korea.
Then anyone interested can follow suit.
Thanks for respecting my quirky thread.
I'm hoping Rteacher will weigh in.
mole: Always be glad to help a fellow Texan. PM me for info on Costa Rica real estate. I'm very in touch with the market as I deal with it everyday |

Man oh man did I ever open a can of worm for myself when I said I would post an essay explaining my answers in detail at midnight (my time).
Its 11:30 PM here in Central America and I swear to you I've been writing for hours upon hours and Im at over 2000 words.
This isn't easy. I need more time. I'm dizzy. I need sleep. My essay is a ramble right now that needs a lot of work. This is something I would usually spend a week or two on to complete.
But, I will finish as soon as I can. It's not like people are sitting on the edge of their chairs waiting for my post anyway.
Depending on how I hold up, It ill be a few more hours or in the morning.
Thanks for your patience and your responses.

My essential identity is the minute particle of conscioiusness commonly referred to as the individual soul (or jivatma.)
I accept the Vedic concept of transmigration of the soul so I've probably been associated with all kinds of animal bodies in previous births, but the material body is just a gross covering (and in some cases, really gross )
As far as thoughts are concerned, they are associated with the subtle covering of the soul - commonly referred to as the mind. The mind utilizes the physical brain to process thoughts related to accepting and rejecting things - usually on the basis of material sense gratification.
Since the mind transmigrates with the soul, we still may have many vestigial thoughts from our previous births stored in our subconscious.
The Supreme Being, simultaneously omnipresent and localized as the "Supersoul" (paramatma), monitors the thoughts and activities of all individual souls - and is the ultimate source of all knowledge, remembrance, and forgetfulness. |
