I'm tired of getting chalk all over me so I have decided to buy liquid chalk.
The question I have is where can I buy some, and how much should I expect to pay?

I'm sick of getting liquid chalk all over me.
Liquid chalk sucks. The tips go bad. They run dry.
They drip. They leak.
The regular chalk is much easier to get out of clothing.
Sometimes the liquid chalk does not wash out. |

Also, I don't think you are supposed to use the liquid
chalk pens on regular chalk boards. |

Exactly! My school renovated my classroom and put in these blackboards that use liquid chalk. I hate it. I try to avoid using it as much as possible. A complete and utter waste.... |

My grade school teachers cover their chalk boards with decorations and
give me a tiny little white board to use.
I have to erase stuff before the kids have a chance to read it. |

Go to Kyobo and buy metal chalk holders... I have about 8 of them in a little homemade chalk "holster" on my belt, and have about 6 different colours at my fingertips at all times. Chalk dust is zero problem now.

Bad idea for the reasons given above. I've used them. Hate them. Way harder to get them out of your clothes than chalk dust.

This is true. Either the special "greenboards" are used with the liquid chalk, or the special "blackboard" to be used with the type of marker they use for coffee shops and such with their Specials (using those glow-in-the-dark neon colours)
Regular greenboards and blackboards are for chalk, and whiteboards are for board markers.

Given the choice of a whiteboard with markers or a chalkboard with chalk, I'll take the chalkboard every time! There's ALWAYS a little piece of chalk floating around somewhere (under a desk...in a corner), but when a marker goes dry, you're out of luck!
As to the dust problem: A lot of the K profs here wrap some paper around the chalk so they don't get covered in dust. I can't be bothered. I DO bring a bottle of water to class with me (I often chuckle and say "soju!!") since chalk dust plus dry air equals a VERY dry throat!! |

I did a guest stint at a girls' high school and they used liquid chalk and I loved it! However, when I bought some and tried to use it in my own classes (I had a technical writing class with no whiteboard in the room) it sucked shit. Until I read these posts, I had no idea that you needed a special board for them. Must be why they didn't write very well and were imposssible to erase.
So, if you have the right board, they're great; if not, don't bother. |
