Since I've been to that pizza place where a mom & daughter work.........I've exchanged a few pleasant emails with the daughter, she calls herself Claire.

Anyway.........this evening I go to get a pizza because I'm hungry.

Claire and Mom welcome me, and they prepare my pizza. Claire offers to give me some free coca cola with it, I decline politely and explain I don't want a sore throat because of the colder weather.

I explain I prefer orange juice because it's not fizzy. So, Claire pops out of the shop and returns with a large bottle of Del Monte OJ, which happens to be my favourite.

I thank both Mom and Daughter and then leave.

They've asked for no English lessons from me at all so far, and they seem genuinely interested in meeting somebody from a different part of the world. They haven't asked me for anything.

Claire even offered to help me if I ever need it while in Korea.

No this isn't a post designed to say 'I told you so' to all of those cynics in my original thread on this topic, who felt the mom and daughter could have alterior motives behind their kindness, but I just wanted to post what happened today because it was a very kind gesture, on Claire's behalf.

It's a pity more Koreans aren't like that.

Uh, there are really kind Koreans everywhere, just as there are really evil Koreans. This is the land of extremes.

If you think stories like this are worth posting about, then learn how to speak Korean lickety-split.

I still don't know why you started this thread actually.

Indeed.

I would also say that this logic applies to every country on the planet but that as foreigners here we see things from a different perspectives so we tend to notice the extremes only.....

What am I missing here? Last time I checked, neither coca cola or cold weather could be attributed to causing a sore throat.
