We are heading home and we were wondering if anyone has experience or advice for traveling through US customs with a AVI. or MPEG player. We have a Media Gate and it is a little larger and it is filled with downloaded movies & TV shows. Anyone have any experience with this? Any problems going through US customs? It will be in checked luggage.

I've traveled with a computer through customs before which I'm sure had some music and video files on it. People travel with lots of computers and other media players now a days. So I don't think you should have any trouble. If you're worried I suppose you could remove the files from your media player.

You shouldn't have any problems at all. If you're worried about copyright law, know that customs officials are A) pretty much always busy; B) too underpaid to care; and C) not authorized to deal with copyright issues.

If you're really worried and you can access the player like a harddrive change the extensions from like .avi to .zzz or something. Then maybe nothing will play, or even show up when the media player is turned on. But then again you might have nothing to watch on the plane ride.

Just don't transport porn! They will bust you for that, if they find it.

I've travelled with games, a laptop, PMP and all the toys. I've never been bothered. If they did have a problem with your movies...how do they know you didn't pay for them?
