Anything recent (or not) you'd highly recommend? You may give details if you wish.

In case you missed, it, this 2005 film almost transcends the genre, has real heart:

This reaches back to 2001 but I only saw it last year and you gotta like Kline:

Four generations of men in a family. Caine and Walken are great as usual but so are the younger guys in this one from '04:

If you've seen and liked any of these three then you'll like the others.

Every Time We Say Goodbye. Where else can you hear Ladino in a move? On top of that, it has Tom Hanks in his (I think) first dramatic role.

The Door. It's a Japanese suspense-drama. All the dialog is in Japanese but it's not hard at all to determine what they're saying anyway. The movie builds the suspense mostly with the filming and settings. I thoroughly enjoyed it. For me, it's a "must have" in my film library.

Adaptation and The Incredibles are the only two recent (well, last ten years or so) mainstream movies I can honestly recommend. Lots, of course, that I haven't seen.

Difficult...

Most films by Quentin Tarantino, the Cohen brothers and Takeshi Kitano. Can't go far wrong there.

Just watched Mr. Brooks with three other people tonight and ALL of us liked it. Got bad reviews on rotten tomatoes, but we were into it. <shrug>

Just saw "Shoot 'Em Up" and was blown away. I love Clive Owen, and the action sequences in the flick were over the top and original. If you can manage a bit of suspension of disbelief, the movie rocks.
