My co-teacher today called in sick, Grade 3 students are on a field trip, which means I have no class today. It may be the same tomorrow, because I think some Grade 4 & 5 students may also still be on that field trip.

I am happy about doing nothing today.

Anyway, I am meant to have an open class on Wednesday. The thing is I am ready for my part of the class but some of the materials my co-teacher is meant to make have not been done.

If she doesn't return by Wednesday, will the open class be cancelled? Or would I have to do it alone?!!!

I never thought I'd say this but I agree with spliff. You need to check with your school. We've got answers but we're not clairvoyant!!

I didn't expect you to be clairvoyant, but as with many issues on this forum, some people from experience seem to know the answer.

If I have to do it alone....I may feel an illness coming on sometime soon....... Embarassed

From experience, they wouldn't usually cancel a class because there's no co-teacher. Even if they are meant to have half the lesson to do.

If there are no students, or expecting a small turnout, then it may be canceled. Best to check with the school, they'll have the answer.

I find it's always best to over prepared, Korean's change their minds at the last minute. So never assume that you might not be teaching. You'll just need to compensate.

Turn up and teach, these are all the little challenges that make life interesting. Crashing and burning are all part of the process.

If you're going to feign sickness, try fan death and see what the school says. Very Happy

Open classes are a big deal for the Korean teachers. Even if you do poorly, there's nothing you can do about it. I have yet to do mine at the end of this month. Sure, I stress about it..but not as much as my coteacher Very Happy

A korean teacher I kind of speak to, just walked in and told me it seems the 3rd grade students had been kept in their classrooms to be taught something else instead of English, because my co-teacher is off sick.

I asked him about open class, he said it is very important and so my co-teacher will come in (even if she is dieing I suppose).

We shall wait and see. On the open class lesson plan there are items I cannot access because all files are written in Korean on my co-teacher's computer. I've checked.

np, don't sweat. The korean teacher will provide you with a lesson plan on that day. Just read it word for word and you should be fine. That was what I was told.

To be honest, I've kind of already learned what I need to say.

Thanks for the advice.
