| Never seen the mouse wine but balut actually tastes pretty good - if you don't smell it or think about what you're eating. I had mine in Vietnam but most people I know who have tried it did so in the Philippines. |

I read this a couple days ago off of Digg. My thought was immediately, "why did you list it as Korea when you clearly state it's a Chinese and Korean thing." If it says it's traditionally Chinese and Korean, he really means it's traditionally Chinese and was borrowed by Korea later on.
And baby mice wine is gross and all, but some areas of China eat a LOT worse. Read an article about monkey brains (and the process used to "prepare" it), if you want to throw up your lunch all over your desk. |

The monkey brain thing is an urban legend. Of all the people I know in China, none has ever seen it on a menu or known anyone who has eaten it or seen it eaten. |

For people who aren't aware of this: China is a BIG country (billions of people, even). Just like you can have an American dish that's only served in some regions, there are some dishes you will only find in SOME areas of China. Just cause you went to Beijing and didn't see monkey-brain vendors lining the streets doesn't mean it's an urgan legend.

A 5 minute search on google got me many articles on the subject. I even included a critical one for you, at the end, that throws doubt on the "live monkey" portion of the story. |

I can't see why moose rectums washed thoroughly and sauteed with garlic, white wine, shallots, oregano black pepper and sliced water chestnuts wouldn't make it to my dinner table.

I've also had it and I can confirm that it's pretty nice. It tastes just like hard boiled egg yolk. The bones and beak are soft and chewy - if you were given it blindfolded, you would never know what you were eating.
I had it in Vietnam, where I also feasted on frogs, crickets, pond snails and bull's *beep* and scrotum.
EDIT: Why the *beep* is the word p e n i s censored?

Lutfisk, ain't that bad. When I worked in Sweden as a chef, I cooked it all the time, it looks really nice but being veggie I've never tasted it. The other four things look gross, this just looks and smells like a lump of white fish. Remember Swedes are in the top three for life expectancy so it can't be that bad for you.
