I was supposed to leave korea on the 5th of November. Had my tickets to leave, plans on the other side and everything. TODAY my boss calls the immigration office to find out when my visa expires. I told her to do this two months ago and she told me that I have to leave the country on the day stamped in my visa...the 5th. TODAY she called, and they said that I don't have to leave until the day on my immigration card....the 9th. Somy boss has arranged for me to work an extra week. One more week teaching, have to rework all my tickets, hotels etc. and I have to spend more money drinking to keep myself half sane in this ******* hellhole.
And I was having a great week.... |

I fucking hate her. She does this all the time.
I haven't had books in any of my classes for the last two months, so I had just been pulling stuff out of my ass and making copies. She asked me on Monday, a week before I was supposed to leave, why I wasn't using the new books that she had bought. I had no idea what she was talking about. She apparently bought new books, but never told me.
I got pulled out of the middle of class one time and was driven to a tv set to do some bullshit hurrah for GnB thing. Still don't know what that was all about.
She told me about the camping trip I had to go on the day before. I heard about it from the kids first and then had to ask her to find out what was going on.
I don't mind the kids in Korea. I don't mind the vegtable trucks. I don't even mind the loudspeaker right outside my window. But I will never ever work in this god foresaken country again because of shit like this. |

How in the hell are you supposed to leave Korea on the same day that you finish work? Is that even possible? I'd need at least 3 days to clean my place out and get packed. |

She obviously doesn't think about any of this stuff.
Who said anything about cleaning? |

Ah.. Korea.. GOOD TIMES!
I remember a summercamp I did where 300 kids with all their bags and their mothers had to pile around around one janitor with a 10-page lists of names to check off with the yarnball of keys in a disorganized pile.
It went something like this... grab a key out of the pile.. look at the number.. find the number on a sheet of paper (not in numerical order).. check it.. call out that student. Repeat 300 times while mothers and kids stand around with bags watching.
I can't begin to tell you how that could have been easily avoided. (Just a little bit of pre-planning.. just a little)..
Ahhh... GOOD TIMES |

Serious WTF, that sounds like something that would drive other people (like me) postal (very much so).
Don't know how you can put up with it, and I'm not going to lie and say "there there, it'll be better" because it won't and it sucks that you have to leave the country on such a sour note.
Hang in there, a week and a half to go. :(

Has anyone else noticed how spongy the brake pedals on hagwon director's cars can be sometimes. Especially when the weather starts to get cold.... |

This doesn't make any sense. When does your contract expire, including subtracting any un-taken vacation days? What is stopping you from just not working aftre the last day of your contract? Why didn't you call immigration yourself? |

Count your blessings, mine just told me "since you're only teaching 7 classes a day now I want to drop your pay 300,000/month below your base pay" (not those exact words, his english is horrific despite him having been an english teacher for 10 years). |

Contract expires on the 11th. She's been telling me for the last two months that my last day of work was the 3rd because she thought my visa expired on the 5th. So now, with what I thought was three days of work left, she has told me otherwise.
What's stopping me from not working is the severence pay and the fact that my contract is still valid.
Its a screwed up situation and I wouldn't expect less out of this country. |
