|

Just looking for any useful input. I am leaving the country when my contract ends shortly. I figure to go home and have some time with the family and see how life in the States is. However, I haven't ruled out coming back, and I would actually like some time in the States before I decide.
My conundrum is whether or not to take my savings with me. If I come back, I will need my savings for my apartment deposit. If I don't come back I will need to get my money out of Korea. I am trying to avoid sending it back and forth. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance. |

why not just send your cash back to the states but keep your korean account open with like 5 bucks in it. if you decide to come back your account will be open so you can send back whatever money you'll need to korea from the states. if you don't end up returning you lose 5 bucks. |
Transferring the money will probably cost me an amount that is not inconsiderable on account of the buy/sell prices, so I am trying to avoid sending it to the US and back to Korea if I can. |

I know I can't do a wire transfer from Canada without coming into my bank. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same here. Probably that means that any money you leave in Korea, you will need to return to send out. But by all means, ask at your bank. This is where an International ATM card would come in handy. |

Send it home.
Rates are really good now, if you plan to stay in the USA. |

What about putting the bulk of it into a Korean money order/cashier's check and sending enough back to live on. Or take your savings and split it into 4 or 5 or 6 cashier's checks and cash them in the states as you need them.
That way if you come back, you won't have any of the back and forth. |

There's really no reason to leave it here (unless you can talk a bank into givin you an intl atm card). The reates are excellent right now. I sent ome 9 mil on Friday and it turned into $9,700. That's a pretty sweet turn around if you ask me. |

Open an Internet banking account and you can wire your money around from anywhere in the world. |
