A couple of months ago I posted about my school firing a guy, allegedly because he had had surgery, but then they rehired him when they couldn't find anyone to replace him.
Then, while still on crutches, he got in a fight in Jamshil. (He seems to have started it.)
A couple of weeks ago he failed to come to work because he was hung over. We know this because 1) He woke up everyone at 1:30 am coming home, standing outside the apt building and yelling at his friend up on the third floor and 2) He asked his friend to call in sick for him the next morning. He received a warning letter from the school that if he failed to show for work again, he would be fired.
Well, last Friday he did. And they did.
So now one of the teachers has to double up classes until the new teacher passes her demo lesson.
Don't you just love waygookin co-teachers? |

In 17 years in the working world, I've never seen anything like it. I had one co-worker in Korea who was fired for calling in sick on Mondays too often, likely because of "exhausting" weekend activities. That's it. |

I've seen it before. I worked at a marina for four years which is a very seasonal job - we needed lots of employees in the summer and very few in the winter, which meant lots of college kids on summer vacation. Biggest bunch of idiots I've ever seen. I would hire someone and have them no call/no show on their first day, a girl called in because it was raining (but she was really hungover), people said they didn't know they were supposed to work that day, and of course plenty of people sick, i.e. hungover.
Considering the age group is pretty close together, I'm not surprised so many teachers here behave the same way. |

The guy who had my job before me did this. Every monday after a weekend being 'heavily refreshed' he'd call in sick. He'd use up his 15 days paid sick with hangovers. The schools knew he did it, but he never got fired. The other days he came in he was a right d*ck. No wonder my school has welcomed me so well. Lucky me! |

Irresponsibility is often age-related, but doesn't have to be. This one happens not to be. He is in his early 40's.
We had another young woman (early 20's) fired for calling in sick too many times on Mondays. (She was also banging several of the students, but I don't know if the school knew that.)
When I started here in late Jan., I was #11 in seniority. Now I'm #3. |

| Last year, most of my roommates would look out after each other. We would raise bloody heck to wake each other up so that we all made it in every afternoon. I don't think anyone missed a day or was too late after a fun night out. Tho, not much could be said for the condition of said teachers.... heh. |

| Best one I ever heard of was the guy who was so absolutely smashed when he got off the plane, they just bought him to the school, booked the return ticket, and sent him right back to the airport the same day. Guess he was even too hammered to form a sentence. |

| It was pretty impressive, and that was over 10 years ago when there were slim pickens to be had. The boss even checked with us about how we felt, and we all gave the thumbs up. Cool guy to work for most of the time. |

Sure. I think what is unusual is that normally, teaching isn't a high-turnover job with such a low barrier to entry. The ESL industry is, unfortunately, which leads it to many of the same crappy results as something like seasonal marina work (according to you).
It's a shame, isn't it. |

| Rumor du jour: He's not 100% fired. I think that means that if the new teacher who is to start next Monday doesn't show up, they will re-re-hire Hangover Hank. (This school has a problem with 'hiring' someone who then finds out some of the stupid conditions, has second thoughts and takes another offer.) |
