|
|
Just was shopping around Emart this evening. They have PAVV LCD's on sale: 32" (2 HDMI ports, 8000:1, 500cd/m^2, 5ms, model#LN32T71BDA) for 870,000!!! Seems like a good deal to me and has me thinking about making the purchase.
Anyways, to my question.....The dude couldn't find the remote, but seemed to think that the menus couldn't be switched to English!?!?!? Does anyone out there have a newer PAVV LCD?? Can you switch the menus to English??
Thanks |

There are often "Secret Service Menus" in these that even some of the floor guys don't know.
Read this. It may be the same for the Samsung you are looking at:

There is a secret service menu hidden away from the prying eyes of consumers. This service menu will contain the panel type most of the time. To access said panel, simply lower both the brightness and the contrast to 0 using the regular user control panel. Exit the menu, and then bring it back up again. After you have done this hold the source button down for 5 seconds. This will bring up the service menu. |
I also suggest you try www.avsforum.com , as they are the mother of all sites for LCD TVs.

Cheers....I will go back to Emart tomorrow and try to get into that Service Menu. A search on Google shows that there are tons of different codes to get into the Service Menus. Who knows if it will work.
Will try....Cheers |

What about firmware?? Do the LCD's have upgradeable firmware?? Maybe could flash with a N. American firmware?? Or maybe not |

That's the same thing I asked the salesman about my PDP. On the PDP (not sure about LCD sets) there is a usb "service" port, where the service guy can update the firmware. He said I couldn't upgrade to English, though. |

I just tried the menus a lot, and got a good idea of what the different options do. I then asked a Korean to interpret. You get used to it. I will say, though, that Samsung menus are among the most difficult (only because they give you a lot of great options). |

Well, I just got back from Emart.....I got into the Service Menu. But no luck....the Service Menu is in English, but there is no 'region' or 'language' option. Just lots of things to fine tune the picture and sound. Didnt look around in those menus too much. But i will when I get it plugged in at my house on Thursday!!! Sweet.....I am really going to up my TV time, I can't wait!!!
For another 180,000won, you can get a slightly better model that has 10,000:1 contrast ratio!!! But the dude said that unless I am going to use it as a computer display, there isn't that much of a difference. So, the cheaper model it was....
I can't wait to plant myself in front of that thing!!! |

That's sort of what mine is like, too... service menu is in English. I can make lots of funky little adjustments like reset the clock for the number of hours on the PDP. I can also adjust the picture up/down/left/right, and make some kind of voltage adjustments I was scared to screw up. I was able to add a little additional functionality and color control, oddly enough.
What trick did u use to get into the menu? |

By the way, there is a code to get into the service menu (at least for Samsung Plasma TVs).
***Be careful in the service menu! You may void your warranty or do harm to your TV is you don't know what you're doing. I take no responsibility for any damages you may do.***
That said, here it is:
Use the remote control: Power off - mute - 1 - 8 - 2 - power on
Navigate with the arrow keys on your remote.
EDIT: Jungmin is right, there is no settings to change the TV menu to English... |

Ya, thats the one I used in Emart. The sales dude was like "OHHhh....opps, error!! Whats that!?!?" I said that it was the hidden service menu. He immediately wanted to know how I did it.
I joked around for a minute telling him it was a secret...hahaha. Then just gave him the sheet i printed off. Then he ran over to his sales buddies giggling. |

Anyone discover anything interesting in the service menu?
I found that you can check the total on time of your TV. I'm at 101 hours. This info is good for determining if you've "broke in" your set. There are also a number of color settings, but I don't know what to do with that. |

Mine is being delivered tonite, so I will have a play with it over the next few days and get back to ya.
I've been reading a lot on the AVSFORUMS....lots of good info there. But I can't seem to figure out what model my TV is in N. America. Here, its the LN32T71BDA....but there, I dunno.
Wondering cuz there are thread there about how to get the best colour out of the display; what setting to use and at what values, etc. There are lots of threads on the 71 Series, mine has '71' in the model number, but in a different place than the N. American LCD model #'s.
So I dunno, maybe its not available overseas yet. |

Yah, you're going to get lost going through the avsforums. There is so much information! Really interesting stuff, though.
My PAVV PDP isn't in there either because its a model specific to Korea, so I just go with the closest (size and feature for feature) American model. It seems to work ok.
By the way, I contacted Samsung America about upgrading my firmware to English. Here's what they said:

Thank you for contacting customer care.
Unfortunately, this is not possible. If you try to install a firmware not made specifically for your model T.V. then it could damage your unit. The models produced and sold in other countries may look similar but are completely different in many ways. We unfortunately do not have access to information or product support on models produced in other countries. |
