Hi there,

So my company just built this large, 20 story building and the elevators (4) are split between even and odd - the ones on the left side going to the even numbered floors and the ones on the right going to the odd numbered floors.

My question is this: What do English signs usually say regarding even and odd numbered floors in regard to the corresponding elevators?

I'm from Arizona, we don't have many large buildings in phoenix, and I've been asked for the proper terminology.

Thank you for helping me (brother dogs) out.

"Please wait until people are out of the lift before attempting to cram yourself in".

Oh sorry, wrong thread...

Can't help you - I don't think I had encountered the odd/even lift thing before coming to Korea.

Glad to be of such help Wink

I've not seen the even/odd elevator thing anywhere but here. Most countries are sensible enough to have lifts that work in concert with each other so that the lift nearest the requested floor can respond to a call with the maximum efficiency so that you don't get three lifts describing the exact same torturously slow route to the top floor at the same time.

LOL! Razz

Thanks for the laugh. We decided on just putting up a sign that shows the elevator numbers instead of English.

Thanks anyway.

I have never heard of any specific "term" to be used as signage for a lift, I assume that's what you are after. However, normally the signs next to the lift doors only display the corresponding floor numbers.

10 9
8 7
6 5
4 3
2

Therefore, the signs are quite self evident, to someone with half a brain.

If this is regarding a description on a tech drg. then "Lift Shaft for Even Floors" & "Lift Shaft for Odd Floors" would surffice, and is technically acceptable.

Unfortunately, Korea isn't one of them. I've lived in 3 different buildings and have suffered with this for years. This year, at least there's a sign that says "please take a second to determine which elevator is closest to you and only push one button" however, Koreans aren't exactly known for their patience and/or planning. I still wait 3 times longer than I should, and frequently take the stairs instead.
