It is a winter camp position.

Many winter camps that are located outside Seoul are paying 3.5mil-4.0mil it seems. My guess is it is harder to get teachers during winter vacation.

You would be pretty secluded at this camp (like most rural camps) and hence they pay you a bit more for your sacrifice of being bored out of your mind during the off times.

I'll add that they're probably also paying more because they want to be selective in hiring. Teachers at the top FL high schools are expected to have pretty fancy academic backgrounds, for better or worse.

Still only comes out to around 30,000 won/hour, PLUS you have additional grading, monitoring, and regular office hours. And don't forget all the other 'fun things' you'll be doing in your 'off' time.

Don't forget that if you have the E-2 visa, you'll also have to get permission from your school/university and an additional visa to work this camp. If you have the F2, F4, or F5, you don't need permission, but, then again, why would you bother?

I definitely agree with PRagic. With the tuition they are probably charging based on their reputation as a top school, I guarantee they could afford to pay 2 or 3 times what they are offering. Not worth it.

Interestingly, KMLA used to be free (it was financed by the Pasteur milk company), but Pasteur's bankruptcy and other management issues ended that. It's now quite expensive, but the school still has financial problems, from what I hear.

Nevertheless, students like that are a joy to teach. Really.

Reading the ad more carefully, it's clear that it's NOT for current KMLA students, but rather a money-making scheme for the school. It's marketed to middle-schoolers, the mothers of whom probably believe it will somehow impact their pride-and-joys' chances of being accepted to the famous hanbok-high-school in the mountains.

i haven't heard anything impressive about minsago's regular salary, though i am curious. anyone ever worked there? pm me if so...

i do think the position would be very rewarding, regardless of the salary.

but other FLHS's seem to be more competitive, at least for test prep. last i heard daewon pays 95,000/hr and yongin (HAFS) was 105,000/hr. hard getting many hours, though...

I'm working in China at the mo and looking or a winter camp position, in anywhere BUT China- got caught out teaching at a company last year so don't want to take the risk, even in another province....

Problem is, every single camp I have seen so far in Korea are all wrong for me, date wise. I'm not available til 14 Jan (to 21 Feb)...nice to have these high salaries, but a. they only want those already in Korea (who may or may not be available anyway) and b. holiday dates always seem to be different Confused !
