Hello there,

I've just been offered a contract and I have accepted it after reading it over and over and making amendments with the help of the feedback of this site.

It is now time for me to fedEX my documents for VISA processing and I was shocked that they expect me to send my original diploma! What if it gets lost or damaged??

Is this the norm when processing a VISA .

Please let me know as I am hesitant to send it.

Yes, it's normal. When you arrive, you should ask for it back from your director. Some don't want to give it back (oh I need to keep that) but explain that they only need a copy.

If they still refuse to give it back (most will give it back) one poster on here suggested that one report it stolen to the police.

Contact your university and request a replacement of your parchment.

There is about a 10% chance that it will be lost, damaged, destroyed or stolen by your employer while you are here.

Yes, it is pretty normal here.

Yes it's normal to be ASKED to send the original.

Alternatively, i'm sure if you send a Notarized copy (stamped by your country's Korean embassy) then that will suffice. That's what i did last time. In fact, i was told to notarize mine by my recruiter. There loads of info on notarizing degrees in the FAQ section.

Just ask them if the Notarized copy will do. I'm sure they'd say yes.

vive Sarkozy.

Get additional copies of your diploma from your university. No reason to send your precious original diploma.

My first employer in Korea stole mine! Probably gave it to his gyopo neice so she could pass it off as her diploma. He's known to do shady things like allow his gyopo relatives to teach english and do privates without degrees. Evil or Very Mad
