| I'm going back to the U.S. as a grad student. I honestly have no clue since I've never rented an apartment or had a long term full time job while I was there. I only lived in the U.S. 3 months after graduating from college before coming here.... |
Yeah me too. I was still really young when I came BACK from Asia and moved back in with my family and am trying to move out now. I am trying to figure out how to make money so I can do all this. I was a really young graduate and never really talked to anyone but my ex-boyfriend so now I am figuring out how to do things. So you're not the only one in that boat...let us know how it goes. (Tip: try to get in a program where you can go to school during either JUST during the day or JUST at night-a split shift schedule will make it impossible for you to work not to mention run you ragged-it also helps to make as many friends as possible to show you how to do things.) |
Thanks for the tip. I definitely plan on scheduling everything in a block so either all morning classes or all afternoon/evening classes. I will have about $8000 when I get back, so I'm hoping to pay some of tuition out of pocket, get a car and then get a job in social services part time. I'm 26 by the way, how old are you? |

I'm 27, too old to be living at home, but some relatives passed away recently and I had been caring for them/been in a funk for a while. It's kind of hard to get yourself established while you're in THAT kind of a situation...(and I still have some older relatives who are very sick).
I came home when I was 24 and that's what I've been doing the last three years and still kind of doing now. Plus my health was bad when I first got back from Asia and I needed some time to recuperate. (I'm a lot better now-I had just worn myself down from working too much and stress.)
When I went to Asia, I had just turned 22. I had moved out before, but was in dorms for the early part of college, not apartments. |

Perhaps The Eagles said it best
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
'Relax,' said the night man,
'We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave!' |

I am going home either mid January, or at the latest mid April.
I am here almost 7 years, and living home will be total shock in every way.
No more walks at 1am. No more sea. I like it here.
My parents want me home, and I am not a kid. But when your parents are 80 and 81 and they want you around, you go.
I never can go back to NY, cannot afford it. I will most likely go to Connecticut as I have to be in the NY area. Rents where I used to live in Brooklyn now are 1,200 a month for a studio or small one bedroom.
Connecticut is cheaper, but the salaries are lower.
As anyone who has taught in the inner city, the quality of life is not good. My worst day here has been better then my best day there. At least here no ones grandmother is dealing crack.
I most likely will come back in a year and stay for 2 more.
Plus the other cost of living. Now good. |
