Hello all,

I hope you can help me out ...

I'm currently in the process of trying to get a new job. I have something lined up and it's got to the point where I need to give them my documents.

I have my original diploma BUT I only have opened transcripts. The problem is that my university's database has crashed all the records from a certain period of time (ie, my time) and cannot issue any transcripts for the foreseeable future.

In lieu of transcripts they have sent me verification certificates, which are currently en route. As well as this, I also have a verification certificate from the British Counsel IN Korea from last December which worked last time I got a job.

Will this work again? If they insist on transcripts (which my recruiter is, not believing me about this wild story) I am screwed.

Oh yes, there's also a postal strike in my home country (the UK) so there's no telling when these verification certificates will arrive.

Any advice or kind words appreciated.

How about certified copies of transcripts by a JP? With a stat dec by a senior University official (in a sealed /stamped Uni envelope)?

Additionally, you'll need:

Medical certificate (negative Aids, TB, Hepatitis, & normal blood pressure)
Police Check
old & new ARC card
E2 Visa (& a flight ticket to Japan?)
old Letter of Release?
2 original signed references (they don't accept electronic signatures)
proof of prior teaching from your old school

well, my friend's uni is run by utter fucktards and his transcript was delayed (because of final exams), sent in an unofficial envelope (retarded office worker), and sent regular mail on the day of a postal strike (retarded office worker). it got to Korea, but of course it didn't suffice. he had to have it sent a second time in a uni envelope.

how long will the database be out? can't hurt to try with the certificates...

Forgive my skepticism but what kind of a rinky-dink little crap-ass university would have all the records from the registrar�s office stored on a computer without having a backup?

Obviously it must be one without an IT department or an IT program.

Is there such a university in the western world?

Dang, wouldn't they back up all this data? You would think they have this in several geographic locations on different servers.

Guess, it is smart to keep a copy to help them regenerate your file in the event they fail.

Why don't you ask them to generate a generic transcript with the most likely classes you took in your degree program and assign random grades based on your GPA? just an idea.

If they can't produce a transcript, make one based off of your degree program, and ask them to stamp it and put it in an envelope that has an official stamp.

South Korea only requires sealed transcripts as an outdated way of verifying that you actually went to school to obtain the degree you are presenting. It's not important if the grades are not accurate, just that it's verified you attended the school to graduate.


Probably, there is a change coming about where they will be able to just electronically verify your credentials rather than putting applicants through and unstandardized inconvenient test of proving credentials.

What if country government departments of educations recorded earned degrees and could be contacted by any employer or immigration department to verify credentials? This would be smart and downright practical...

Of course country department of educations record degrees, especially if you have student loans, but there simply is no standardized system or reciprocal agreements between countries on verifying professional credentials. They just have to trust what are considered reliable professional sources such as the U.S. Dept. of Education and individuals.




Why you, yea you reading this, can you verify that expensive degree you studied many years for, once again? Just joking.

In college I had an instructor who graduated in the mid 80's from
a German university. She said she did not have a transcript. She
just had a book with stamps in it that showed what she had done.
She said if she loses the book there are no records.

Back in my day (10 years or so ago) JMU had the best computer network of all the UK Unis. They had 2 backup locations each on a different power grid to each other, and the servers were all located underground and covered quite a lot of space...

I can't believe they have allowed it to slip so far to the point where they can lose such valuable information...

You sue the crap out of your school because the missing records prevent you from getting employed.

You top that off with emotional damages suffered from the ordeal. Bam! Early Retirement.
