Let us not forget the "Suspected" part of the article. He has not been convicted of any offence. He is still innocent...witch hunters. He is wanted for questioning which may lead to charges and a conviction. If he is guilty then let's burn him.
Takes more than a few posts on Dave's to convict...in my mind. There are a few others on this site I would add to a list...maybe not criminal but for sure psychotic. |

The story is pretty detailed in the Toronto Star as well.
I find the connection between the guy's religious past, desire to be a priest, and his obsession for boys to be a nice coincidence the press is putting together. |

I think a lot of people misunderstand criminals. You always hear comments like this after a crime. I'm sure the guy is a regular fella, except that he has a blemish on his mind that causes him to act irrationally at times. Of course he's not walking around with his wang hanging out and showing off pictures of naked Cambodian kids to his acquaintances..
I'm probably one of the few people to feel deep sympathy for this Neil character. It's obvious from his terrible poetry that he hates his perverted lusts but is powerless to change. It's such a sad scenario. I liken it to a heroin or crack addict, who knows he's ruining his life, but can't bring himself to change.
The man deserves punishment, and I suppose the righteous indignation so easily spewed by those faultless individuals looking on, but I also believe he deserves pity. |
Too bad HE didn't have more pity for his six-year old victims.
If he hates himself so much, then why doesn't he turn himself in? I doubt he feels any remorse or guilt. He fled when he was about to be caught. As for his poetry I get the sense that he is boasting about his sexual acts, cloaking them in pathos of course, but boasting nevertheless. Otherwise he wouldn't have posted pictures of himself engaging in such acts on the Internet. That is not the action of someone who feels remorse or guilt.

Technically the photos were doctored by the police to make his face appear. Although it was a clumsy job, they were scrambled, remember? They're still enough to convince me, but I'm not sure about a canadian judge. As jinju points, it's all too easy to put someone's face in a picture, and it's been done in the past. |

Saw the CNN interview with a former Paedophile who had overcome the craving or whatever it was and is now an adviser to the police on such matters. Said the perversion was an urge he and other paedophiles know is wrong, but are unable to control. Guilt is part of their personna, but they aren't able to curb their needs or lusts.
He was particular about how he had to watch himself always, because the hidden demon which drove him in the first place was still there.
He did say that children who are abused have a high propensity to becoming paedophiles. I might disagree with that, because many young people get abused, and aren't in the least interested in perpetrating the same crime. I wonder if there is a genetic reason, rather than a behavioral conditioning process that sets people off on this path.
Earlier post mentioned that he had a clean record before he got to Asia, and that he all of a sudden switched to becoming the predator. Could also be a power thing that's driving him to subject younger children to his perversions. Could be full filling a void in his life. A life where he hasn't been an authority figure. |

Wait a minute. There are plenty of valid reasons to encrypt files on a laptop (he mentioned Truecrypt) that have nothing to do with child porn.
Let's not criminalize privacy, or suggest any link between encryption and child porn. Or that a discussion of using encryption is related to the abuse of small children and needs to raise "red flags".
Thanks. |
Thank you for lifting reason from the storm of knee-jerk bullsh#t that is so often stirred up when things like this go down. Drinks; I'm gonna buy you a few should our paths cross. |
Hey! I've been fighting that corner too, when time has allowed. Where's MY frigging pint? |

Sorry indytrucks, I have great respect for your views on this board, but I don't see anything in that thread that would raise "red flags" about someone being a child molester. Just a guy indicating knowledge of file encryption technologies. I have the same knowledge- should I be "red flagged" too?
If we're going to "red flag" everyone who watches pornography - we're not talking about *child* here, to be clear - we're going to be very busy. |
