Playing the hated Diamondbacks as we speak. I haven't tuned in yet but am going to now. Arizona didn't look too good last night in the thin air and cold rain in Denver.
Wouldn't it be a hoot if the Rockies made it to the World Series tonight!!!
That is all.

Good for them. Will it be their first time in the big show? I'm a big fan but haven't been up to speed much in recent years. |

What sucks for them is that now they have to wait about a week to play again. This could eradicate all the momentum they had been playing on. I hope that doesn't happen but we'll see I guess.. |

I hope they end up playing the Red Sox! It'll be their first World Series.
I wonder about the momentum thing too.
It's nice to see a "little" team without any big $ players do so well. |

Coors Field has often been packed this last season.
Sky Sox games are a huge hit on a Friday night.

they've been packed all season long?? maybe the sky sox sold out...but the rockies haven't.
maybe during the latter part of this 20 game stretch...but the rockies season average was 19th overall...averaging 28,978 a game. for example, the first game of this streak vs. the marlins pulled in 19,000.
yay for the rockies and their trip to the world series....but don't say it's been packed at coors all season long.... |

I still say Coloradoans like baseball. Guess I must have gone to the more popular games this year.
Denver may not be a market like NY or LA, but for the smaller amount of people here I'd say baseball is doing just fine.
Perhaps a World Series win get the networks paying more attention too.
How about that Tulowitzski?!!!! |

I don't know how a team can fake winning 21 out of their last 22 games. |

Exactly. Thats what I mean about Coloradoans and baseball. We dont care about it anymore than we care about a cattle farmer's cows in Texas -- which is to say not at all. We like skiing, hiking, and the Denver Broncos. Sometimes hockey makes it up there. The Nuggets have been popular at certain times. But there just aren't too many baseball enthusiasts... people who go to see baseball are doing it in the same way they'd go to, say, the chocolate museum. Its an interesting thing, but there arent "fans" the way they exist in other places such as New York, LA, or Detroit. I grew up there in CO and in all my years, I only met one baseball fan (a coworker). And she didnt even like the Rockies! She was a Mets fan. |

I don't care about tradition in this situation. It is a great sports story, regardless if the fans in Colorado suck as you say. The Rockies had to win every single game that they won to make it into a tiebreaker game to get into the playoffs. They won the last 13 of their last 14 regular season games. If they lost just one more they would have been out of the wildcard chase.
In the tiebreaker against the Padres they came back from two runs down in the 13th inning to propel them into the post season. They have not lost in the playoffs. They have vowed a portion of their playoff shares to the widow of a Rockies minor league coach who was killed months ago by a foul ball.
This is a great sports story, even if the Colorado fans that you speak of are not aware of it. |

Actually, the Denver Bears, the minor league predecessors to the Rockies, demonstrate a history of baseball in the city going back to the turn of the 20th century. And remember that prior to 1958, there was no major league baseball team west of St. Louis. MLB's slow expansion into western (and southern) markets meant that the traditions in those areas were associated with the minor leagues, but often, especially in pre-WWII, those leagues and teams were very good.
