i found a wallet in the street and picked it up and will take it to security guards near my building. I picked it up because I know I wont steal anything. I did look inside and only an ID card is in it; anything else that was there is gone. I figure someone drove by and threw it outside of their car.

Now when this waygook turns in the billfold, which I am sure is missing stuff, will they think the waygook took it?

Is this really necessary? Do we think so little of Koreans that we expect them to be insane enough to assume that wallet thieves voluntarily endanger themselves for no reason by returning wallets that they stole? The persecution complex on this site grows daily.

What? There's no way the cops would think you stole the money. Do you really think that people who steal wallets bring them back to the police station?

I've found wallets. I've brought them to the police station.

You could also bring it to the post office if it's closer to your home.

A guy has a higher chance of getting his wallet back if there is little or no money in it. For that reason, I use a credit card billfold and a money clip.

Anyway, my hats off to the OP for his act of honesty.

The money and credit cards are mine. The ID is someone else's.

You have to be careful. Maybe someone will come and collect the wallet, then "make up a story" about how much money has been taken. Then you'll be the one paying up. Not saying it will happen, but hey.. it's happened Rolling Eyes

I found a wallet when I lived in Gunsan a few years ago. Took it directly to the police station two blocks from where I found it. First thing they said was "How long you have?" and I said only five minutes. Nothing happened, but they didn't seem to believe me. Only had a Korean drivers license in it, nothing else.

It's a fair question. I wouldn't try to read an ajosshi's mind by the tone of his voice. The only time they don't sound grumpy is when they're blind drunk.
