Nah, here's hoping they leave it alone.

If the board has "digressed into vulgar and irrelevant non-sense" by "trolling, vulgar and abusive types", let whoever's visiting the board see it all: the jackassery that gets put into "teacher" positions in South Korea without experience, training, qualifications of any kind or even basic reference checks. I don't see why the moderators should be protecting the "community" from itself.

Good point. I've always thought that one day, some of the stuff written here would come back to bite more than one poster in the rear (as Peter Jackson found out). To list just one issue there are posters here who suggest writing letters to the Western media about the discrimination they face here. But after the media looks at this kind of stuff, they'd probably say "Well no surprise there."

Nah, couldn't be. After all as people keep telling us... "It's just an Internet messageboard."

Thank you.

The last 10 pages or so of this thread have taken a turn toward the inevitable idiocy only found on Dave's.

It appears Neil only abused kids that were already in the sex trade. While that lets a lot of parents in Canada (and maybe Korea) sleep easier, and might be seen as a lesser crime by some, what he did was still gut wrenchingly wrong.

The thing is, the fact that 14 year olds (never mind six year olds) are in the sex trade, and were likely either sold into it or on the run from something worse at home, disturbs me much more than the specifics of this one case.

Yes these arguments are ONLY relevant if Koreans argue that this disease is limited westerners. I haven't heard anything like that so far so it's wholly inappropriate.

If you read into Chris's poetry a bit, he seems to have so much pity for these kids. Maybe he thought he was caring for them in some way.

When I heard where the crimes took place, I assumed that this kids would have a part of the sex trade, and although I wouldn't say they were "attacked," I think his involvement is still absolutely despicable. It's also disgusting that he further degraded these children by distributing their pictures to countless people.
The man (then-boy) who has come forward in Thailand to identify Chris seems to have been "introduced" to Chris by his father, who drove Chris in a taxi. Absolutely wretched.

True. He probably thought that it some how legitimized the act. Some people on this forum have come dangerously close to doing the same thing. It should be made very clear that whether or not any money is paid is irrelevant; the crime is equally dreadful.

Or probably just keep them from putting faith in Adobe Photoshop's "Twist" filter. They'll get smart and start using "Gaussian Blur" or something like SuperHero used to hide that woman's face in the photo of Chris Neil signing Noraebang-style. Laughing

Maybe that's what spliff meant when he called the guy an "idiot"

(rather than a sicko or pedophile or creep)

Doesn't putting the pictures up on the 'net imply that at some level he wanted to be caught?

Well, I believe "idiot" is a term we could label him with after he had sex with the young boys. Taking photos would be the second idiotic thing, followed by covering his face with a simple swirl filter, followed by posting the photos.

Really? You think so? ... That's what his family would say isn't it?

Sounds out of place.

Like calling a serial killer an idiot, a bloody dictator an idiot, a rapist an idiot...

*shrug*

I don't think so. It would indicate a deep level of involvement and/or fascination with young boys inasmuch as they were souvenirs or for further sexual gratification.

Poramit said it had been much easier for schools to recruit teachers before the high-profile case of John Mark Karr, who claimed he killed six-year-old American child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey in 1996.

Karr was arrested in Bangkok last year and deported to the United States, where he was freed for lack of evidence. He had worked as an English teacher in Bangkok, South Korea and other places.

I didn't follow that story when it happened. That guy also worked in South Korea? Where?

Got a call from the Schiller guy for the Spectrum newspaper. He asked me who I was on Daves, and when I told him he said "Can you prove it?"

I said to myself WTF. I said I am that person, and have been that person since 2003 about the same time as "Kermo". I haven't ever had to prove it to anyone, and that's that.

He asked me to pass a message to Kermo, which I did, and she politely told me to tell him what to do. I might relay her message to him.
