Before I moved back to Korea last year, I had three drinks in 8 years. My wife doesn't drink and I never really cared for it. But in the past year, I've been working for a large Korean corporation and we go out for dinner and drinks at least twice a week, sometimes three. I keep a bottle of Jim Beam at home (1.75 liters) and sometimes have a beam and coke (or two) with dinner. It helps me take the edge off the daily stress here in Korea. I don't think it'll lead to problems though, because after two drinks I head for the king size sealy posturepedic and sleep pretty darn well.

Drinking just makes me tired usually, and the next day I'm always very hazy and out of it, even if I only have a few beers.

Why don't I drink?

-I don't like the taste.
-I grew up around drunks and saw the negative effects.
-I worked in a club and saw the negative effects.
-I don't see the reason to.
-I've never had a hangover.

Dalai Lama Brushes Off Chinese Criticism

WASHINGTON - The Dalai Lama, after meeting privately Tuesday with President Bush, brushed off China's furious reaction to U.S. celebrations this week in his honor. "That always happens," the exiled spiritual leader of Tibet's Buddhists said with a laugh, speaking to reporters gathered outside his downtown Washington hotel.

The White House defended the meeting in the president's residence and dismissed Beijing's warning that the talks and the awarding of the Congressional Gold Medal to him on Wednesday would damage relations between the United States and China.

The Dalai Lama is hailed in much of the world as a figure of moral authority, but Beijing reviles the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize laureate and claims he seeks to destroy China's sovereignty by pushing for independence for Tibet, where the Dalai Lama is considered a god-king.

When asked if he had a message for Chinese President Hu Jintao, the Dalai Lama playfully patted a reporter on the cheek and said, "You are not a representative of Hu Jintao." Laughing

He said that during their meeting, he explained to Bush what was happening in Tibet and said he thanked the president for "showing his concern about Tibet."

"We know each other, and we have developed, I think, a very close friendship � something like a reunion of one family," the Dalai Lama said, speaking of Bush.

I think drinking is for high school and university students. Once you grow up, you realize how nutty it really is.

Hangovers suck
It's expensive
you do incredibly stupid things and think they are funny
more often than not, drunk people act like complete asshats

Why I don't drink.....

- Weekend binge drinker.
- 1995 Crashed a car, drunkdriving.
- Resulting in 6 day coma, detached retina surgery, head injury causing balance and speech coherency difficulties.
- Felt recovered-ish after 2 years, started working again in a nice job.
- Loads more binge drinking, accumulating in �8-10K of debt.
- Heard God speak in my spirit, finally seen the Light. Started doing things God's way, as best I could.
- Paid of my debt, studied a 4-year degree....

Nothing wrong with a drink, but drunkeness opens the door to sin, which is why the bible does not condone drunkeness.

Live to drink or drink to live: Both are ways the devil uses to ruin lives and sometimes steal lives.
The spirit of alcohol is a counterfeit of the Spirit which is the real joy, peace and happiness giver.
Alcohol masks the problems, but the Holy Spirit can deal with the root of the problems.

I used to be one of those guys falling about on the streets at noon in a drunken stupor.
