Poramit said it had been much easier for schools to recruit teachers before the high-profile case of John Mark Karr, who claimed he killed six-year-old American child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey in 1996.

Karr was arrested in Bangkok last year and deported to the United States, where he was freed for lack of evidence. He had worked as an English teacher in Bangkok, South Korea and other places.

I didn't follow that story when it happened. That guy also worked in South Korea? Where?

No. He worked in Bangkok.

He also worked in Seoul prior to that.

Never knew that bit.

All I know was he was a bit of a nutter who wasn't guilty but that was never reported in the Thai press.
He was on his way to get a sex op change I believe

supposedly this is the first time Interpol has decided to release images worldwide of a wanted pedophile.

which means Neil is sort of a guinea pig (among other things) & this is just the tip of the iceberg

a news report here in the States said part of the danger of this manhunt process lies in cases of mistaken identity that result in violence. someone may spot a guy who looks a lot like Neil, and opt to open up a can of vigilante justice--which would serve Neil right, but be a bummer for the innocent dude who might happen to look like him

no doubt there are quite a few others out there w/ swirly face photos who are freaking out right about now

The last page or so, people were commenting on WHY THIS GUY? Why not other pedos who might be doing the same thing and are down there right now.

The big difference seems to be this guy's strong internet presense with the 200+ pictures. The crime itself is one thing, but spreading around your crime all over the internet boasting to other 'similar-minded' net groups just makes this guy the 'wanted' guy.

There is a mention of Dave's ESL Cafe on that article too. People from all over this world will be looking at this site and seeing this thread. Therefore, I'm asking that moderators please clean up this thread.

Why? Lest anyone should mistake it for a normal internet message board? Who are you trying to impress? Are you also going to clean up your avatar? Would you like the world to believe that we're all as humorless as you are?

just curious. has anyone else found this The Eyeball Kid an arrogant newbie with little to contribute except a bad attitude? Anyways, this thread's a dead horse and time for you MODS to round up all these loose threads about the same topic inta one corral, whaddya say?

Arrogant why? For expressing an opinion? For not holding exactly the same opinion as you? For not having wasted as much time on here as you have?

I would say that it is a much worse attitude to be all po-faced and mealy-mouthed about the whole fucking thing because 'urrhhh the world is watching and we want all look really professional on a internet spazboard even though it's devoted to general discussion of life in Korea and is not actually a professional forum.'

God I hate this attitude. A sick pedo is a westerner, so another westerner has to subtly defend him by trying to pull out the old "But look at what *insert other race/country/group*" do!"

To be fair, we all know that given the tendency of the Korean media to paint ALL foreign English teachers as sick, degenerate losers, reminding our hosts that

Quote:
Yes, Koreans have their sickos. So does my home country. So does your home country. But that's no excuse for Neil, and it's no reason for you to try and make it a pathetic race issue.

is an understandable reaction from the foreign community.

Koreans are the ones who make it a race issue. Sometimes the response to that will be shall we say, a bit raw.

Increased paranoia is the end result of both these stories, and unfortunately it will do nothing to make our lives or jobs easier. I do really hope the media picks up on how well the expat teacher community is self policed, and helped to at least get this sicko identified. This is a major coup and deserves to be covered by the media instead of the constant stream of "Whitey's violent crazy fucking our women and teaching our children while high and drunk out of his mind."

I agree. The foreign teacher contingent is generally awash with decency and good humour and it is imperative that this isn't spoilt by a wave of sanctimoniousness rising to preempt an attack by the Korean media that is (somewhat erroneously) perceived as inevitable. We don't have to feel any guilt for this forsaken nonce's crimes, just as none of you have to bear any responsibility for me failing to get my tax return in on time this year. (Though to be fair, you could have said something...)

Found these on the Thai page

He's probably having a beer right now in his hotel, reading all this stuff on the internet, not only did he pay off the hotel staff, he probably also paid them to bring him a couple of prostitutes and take out Thai food, you know, probabaly having a good time while the whole world is trying to catch him.

-----------------------
So... This character was working on Korea and did his kiddy fiddling in Cambodia and Vietnam but if he's caught in Thailand he'll be "another paedo English teacher from Thailand!". I really wish he'd gone somewhere else when the heat was turned on!

--------------------------
The media circus will start just as they did with that Carr character.

I knew Chris as I taught with him for about a year. I liked Chris for a number of reasons. He was a very dependable and a personable person. You could rely on him to be frank. What I really liked about Chris was that he was very outspoken. Where most foreign teachers would not speak a word and suffer in silence, he would speak out. He was always well spoken, well mannered with a slight temper and he was clearly well travelled. Not once however during that time did he ever so much as hint that he was otherwise inclined. I feel a deep sense of sympathy for him and the flaw that has now surfaced. I also feel a deep sense of sympathy for his mother who will now become a victim of the press. It is a sad day for both my wife and myself!

I am more than certain that the Asian press will have a field day with this. They will use this to do nothing more than to tar the rest of the expat community in Asia as deviants with their tendencies to twist words, misquote what was said, and fabricate most segments of their stories. Just like the Carr stories they will canabalise old news just to write a line of trash and call it journalism.

What Chris did was reprehensible in no uncertain terms and punishment is due. Even so I wish he would surrender to his embassy and let his family rest at ease. Let justice take its course.

For those righteous faultless individuals on this forum. Flame away as I have said what I have wanted to say!

Right, just a "flaw" of his, that's all. He's just got that pesky having-sex-with-kids flaw, no biggie. And he who is without flaws or faults, cast the first stone, huh? May as well say "It takes two to tango". That read like a hagiography. For a paedophile. Good God.

i don't know whether he's enjoying himself in his hotel room

dude's likely terrified, & probably too paranoid to sleep

this guy doesn't sound like a loner either, and if friends are hiding him, it must be because they're part of his photo club & afraid of being narked out by him if they don't

in the case of Carr--he was just a loony & never actually convicted of anything, in fact he's a free man living near Atlanta. from the first video images of him where he was wearing his pants pulled up near his chest i could tell he was just a nutjob

whereas Neil was actually acting on his fantasies

i doubt he's having much fun, cuz for all intents & purposes, his life is over

If you read the entire thread, you'll see a couple of people there think that the author (Tick Tock) is Neil. It's a stretch though.
