dude's likely terrified, & probably too paranoid to sleep

this guy doesn't sound like a loner either, and if friends are hiding him, it must be because they're part of his photo club & afraid of being narked out by him if they don't

in the case of Carr--he was just a loony & never actually convicted of anything, in fact he's a free man living near Atlanta. from the first video images of him where he was wearing his pants pulled up near his chest i could tell he was just a nutjob

whereas Neil was actually acting on his fantasies

i doubt he's having much fun, cuz for all intents & purposes, his life is over

By friends, I meant other people involved in similar crimes.

--------------------------
The media circus will start just as they did with that Carr character.

I knew Chris as I taught with him for about a year. I liked Chris for a number of reasons. He was a very dependable and a personable person. You could rely on him to be frank. What I really liked about Chris was that he was very outspoken. Where most foreign teachers would not speak a word and suffer in silence, he would speak out. He was always well spoken, well mannered with a slight temper and he was clearly well travelled. Not once however during that time did he ever so much as hint that he was otherwise inclined. I feel a deep sense of sympathy for him and the flaw that has now surfaced. I also feel a deep sense of sympathy for his mother who will now become a victim of the press. It is a sad day for both my wife and myself!

"flaw"? What the heck is this guy's problem? That is grossly inappropriate given the circumstances

I am more than certain that the Asian press will have a field day with this. They will use this to do nothing more than to tar the rest of the expat community in Asia as deviants with their tendencies to twist words, misquote what was said, and fabricate most segments of their stories. Just like the Carr stories they will canabalise old news just to write a line of trash and call it journalism.

Yes let's worry about our reputation...who cares about what some sicko did with some kids? Rolling Eyes

What Chris did was reprehensible in no uncertain terms and punishment is due. Even so I wish he would surrender to his embassy and let his family rest at ease. Let justice take its course.

A nice CYA act, but I'm not buying it.

For those righteous faultless individuals on this forum. Flame away as I have said what I have wanted to say![/quote]

Man, I thought the Korean forum was bad...sounds like the Thai one is even worse with people who think like this.

(Bolded replies are my responses to those remarks quoted above.)

didn't think it was possible for a legitimate journalist to quote so often from some anecdotal internet forum.

I'm sure there are others in thailand who mr.neil could implicate in a number of similar crimes. my guess is they are either hiding him or have dumped the incriminating evidence somewhere in the mekong. if the former is true i wouldn't be surprised if some ferrang ladyboy with a really creepy smile, possibly named christie, turns up soon.

It's a bit ridiculous that journalists from all over the world are coming on here and quoting any old anonymous poster.

So, where is this club called Norebongs? Fucking journalists are so stupid. Atleast this moron. Nice research, and all it took him was to sit on his fat ass and surf Dave's. Journalism, how low can it go?

They seem to have read his mind too. Did he really say this was his favourite forum?

I'm not going to jump on the journo bashing bandwagon that seems to be Dave's newest, most favourite pastime, but I will admit this is pretty damned stupid and lazy fact checking work.

The reason we jump on these journos is that they are doing a pisspoor job. There is no fact checking, the stories seem to be written by highschoolers. Today's journalism is about getting a story out as fast as possible. Screw the facts, screw the details, who cares if a bunch of errors stare at the reader. The article has to be out. Its trash journalism. Absolute garbage. Bill schiller, you SUCK. I wonder, Bill, if you wrote that "piece" (of crap) you consider an article, drunk and in your boxers with the TV distracting you. NO FACT CHECKING?!!!!

I still don't understand how the "sauna" incident sheds any light on anything...I mean he was gay wasn't he?

No, the sauna incident was quite irrelevant to anything. The media have made far too much of "Peter's" presence here at Dave's ... the fact is that he was an unobtrusive character whose posts didn't contain any real warning signs. A few of his other posts seem "creepy" now that we know the truth (as others have pointed out), but there was no way of guessing before.

It didn't. There's no reason to mention a Dave's ESL Cafe post in a news article about a wanted criminal suspect unless it sheds some light on his character or provides some clue as to his guilt or innocence. The sauna incident signifies nothing, and that's the point.

It appears Neil only abused kids that were already in the sex trade. While that lets a lot of parents in Canada (and maybe Korea) sleep easier, and might be seen as a lesser crime by some, what he did was still gut wrenchingly wrong.

The thing is, the fact that 14 year olds (never mind six year olds) are in the sex trade, and were likely either sold into it or on the run from something worse at home, disturbs me much more than the specifics of this one case.

If you read into Chris's poetry a bit, he seems to have so much pity for these kids. Maybe he thought he was caring for them in some way.

When I heard where the crimes took place, I assumed that this kids would have a part of the sex trade, and although I wouldn't say they were "attacked," I think his involvement is still absolutely despicable. It's also disgusting that he further degraded these children by distributing their pictures to countless people.
The man (then-boy) who has come forward in Thailand to identify Chris seems to have been "introduced" to Chris by his father, who drove Chris in a taxi. Absolutely wretched.
He might not even be the father. Maybe he's the man who bought and pimped him. Even if he was the father, it's not that unusual, these types of stories are very common in Thailand. There are many parents who pimp and sell their children into the sex slavery business. Do a little internet research and you'll understand that this is a huge epidemic. I know people writing books on this subject. I've seen and heard the stories. It's not just Thailand either. You can drive all around Cebu and find mothers standing on the steps with their little girls trying to get attention from people driving by. I wouldn't have known what they were doing until a policeman explained it to me. That was my culture shock. Locals treat it like it's perfectly normal.
