Anyone have any bright ideas for activities for children, say around 8-10 years of age? I've got plenty of coloring things, word searches, puzzles, and the like but for physical stuff all I can think of is "bobbing for apples".
Help!

We've cancelled classes on Halloween so each student can come to the school dressed up and take part in some of our activites.
We've covered the walls of one of our classrooms entirely in black sheets and have created a haunted house. The kids will go through it and put their hands in bowls of skinless grapes (eye balls) and wet spaghetti (brains).
We've hidden envelopes around the school which will lead the students on a treasure hunt for candy.
We're playing "Murder in the dark" where one student is secretly deemed the murder, and one is the detective. The lights go out and the murderer touches one student and he/she must play dead. The lights come on and the detective must guess who the murderer is. If he/she can't successfully guess, the lights go off and the whole process is repeated again.
Hope this helps a little. |

I've been staying up late this week searching for some groovy stuff to do with my kids for Halloween. I've never celebrated it before - it just doesn't fly in Oz. So I'm quite excited.
I recommend these two sites for print outs and activities...
dltk-kids and the selection at About.com and if you have access to a computer for your class, Devil's Tramping Ground for some beautiful flash animations of spooky ghost stories. I used these once in a free talking lesson about ghosts. Great examples of different kinds of story telling - animation only, animation & voice over, animation & text. The kids enjoyed them (10~13 year olds).
I'm planning to make classroom decorations & masks on Thursday and to play lots of games on Friday - like pass the parcel, eating cake without using your hands, and one suggested by CLG, to eat m&ms with chopsticks - a race between two teams. |

I've done some halloween stuff today. For younger ones games like statues are great. It takes them a while to get into but my kids didn't want to stop once they lost their attuide.
Simon says is always a good one.
As is stick in the mud. Kind of like tag but when your tagged your frozen to your spot. You can tag other people but are freed when some goes under your legs.
Also I forget the name of this game but someone stands at one end of the room and the rest of the class is at the other. The person has their back to the class and class makes it's way forward. However it can turn around and the kids have to be frozen or it's back to the start.
Also if you can try and get some halloween stuff from walmart or the shop near ewha station. A fake snake and some dracula teeth proved to be a great device for lots of fun today.

Excellent and thanks! I think we're just going to have the kiddies over and do a word search and a maze game (in teams of course to rile them up) and then bob for apples. After that, we will go out and do some trick or treating - with the help of the parents.
Gotta find a costume now. I thought I could go as "Igor" but the wife said I would frighten the children.

Making zombies/mummies is fun and clean-messy?
Split 'em into 2 teams, hand out a couple of rolls of dunny paper to each team and a bit of tape.
Let each team select a mummy, and either have a race to completely cover the mummy , or let 'em take their time and have a prize for the best job.
I like the quick quick version myself.
Might find some jelly and candy snakes/worms and make up some slimy gooey worm concoction in paper cups too. |

Dunny paper is toilet paper for anyone who's madly running about looking for an online translator right now. |
