Once a man has been mad by la chicken cosa nostra, its for life!!!
yeah it sucks my man, but mental strength is like muscle, you need to exercise it for it to grow, so try and look at the situation like a good work out (sorry been on the rum). Hold up comrade, don't let the B@@stards grind ya down.

Becareful, may be a ploy to get out of giving you your bonuses, since you will have no time to argue. I'd suggest getting a ten day extension on your visa just in case.

This thread needs Austin to come in and tell you in a condescending manner why it's your fault and how he's better than you for it.

I second that...you need leverage, be it bluffing. If, indeed, this woman is as stated, I would cover my arse as well as possible.

Get familiar with EFL law and other groups.....just in case.

I also suggest you get EVERY students' parents' E-MAIL, PHONE (cell and home) numbers.....with their parents' names. This bit o' bargaining SHALL do wonders...I promise! Umm, why? I'll explain at another time....if you wish.

Shoosh,
Ryst

Are you expecting to get your severence if you leave on the 9th and your contract says you work till the 11th? If your director is pulling this crap for a couple extra days I'll bet she has thought this through herself. You better be careful.

WTF: Why do you choose to post using abusive language about an employer who gracefully chose to employ you in a foreign country? Do you not owe her some respect and courtesy? Are you not a responsible adult who is responsible for your own visa? Why blame others when the fault is in yourself? I have never taken that route and.... Whew! God! What a horrible dream! Yeah, WTF, I'm quite sure, if this helps, that the visa expiry date that's ACTUALLY STAMPED IN YOUR PASSPORT is the one that's "law" as far as immigration goes. Good luck & keep calm!

I see now WTF. Well, as the others have said, be careful about getting your bonus and final pay if you'll have no time to fight for it. Perhaps you can call your travel agent and hold another date for a later flight? If she doesn't pay you on your due date you'll have to tell immigration you're staying a few more days to claim your bonus. It is possible to get extensions on that visa.
Do you have someone you can trust to help you with communication?
Let's hope it all works out and that the worst it gets is you had to work one more week.

After reading half your post, I was about ready to quit my job right now, hunt you down and slap you. But now I see that you just had a bad dream. Immigration says that the date on my alien card is the date I have to leave by...ut they seem to be changing their minds just as often as my boss.
What will probably happen is that I will try to leave the country on the 9th and they will attempt to fine me for leaving 4 days late. Assssaaaa!

I've probably already posted this experience, but when I was in Seoul in the 90s I kept getting fined by immigration for supposed violations. I talked my way up the immigration building, finally had a conversation with a guy who said something to the effect that his office was required by the gov. to bring in X amount of dollars each month. Previously this had been taken care of with bribes, but begining with the anti-corruption campaigns (Kim Yong-sam?), bribes were more risky and immigration had found it simpler to provide conflicting information (and postpone distribution of dated info) in order to rake in bucks from fines paid by foreigners. Dunno of things have changed...

Immigration/customs just generally sucks wherever you go.

Bosses make decisions that are good for them, without reference to anyone elses lives, arrangements or what is practical. Its hard to explain the logistical problems of doing things properly and on time here, to someone who doesn't know korea: they just can't understand what the hold-up is.
WTF it sounds almost as haphazard and dumb as my boss sending me to Osaka on a Saturday, "DUH".
