What is a reasonable price to you?
You are aware that you can get a new dual core computer + LCD monitor for under 400k won. |

Plain-Jane white box computer system, built while you wait.
Yongsan, Son-in Plaza (the place with the big "Gigabyte" sign on the corner of the building.
~225k for the computer and ~175k for the monitor (new in the box). |

Low end dual core CPU, 1 gig RAM, 80-120 gig HDD, Nvida 6x00 video, DVD burner, case, PS, mouse and keyboard.
Not a hard core gaming machine but works for most people for surfing, word processing, watching videos, etc., and will still play most if not all of the common games albeit at a lower resolution. |

You know, it always slays me...
Five years ago, we were talking about how a 500mhz Celeron was enough for surfing the web, but for video editing, you'd better go with the Pentium 4 1.4Ghz chip.
Now we've got dual-core Pentium 3.0 ghz chips, and people are saying that they're enough for surfing the web, but you should get more for video editing.
Ha... they're enough, provided you have 1 gig of Ram.
The only significant piece of software to come around in the past few years which has done anything to tax systems is this glorious new Windows Vista piece of trash, which requires 2 gig of Ram to run its best. |

I have a 500Mhz PC. It runs XP and office apps just fine, and most Internet sites are no problem. Some however, with heavy flash usage are a bit slow to run. Good for games too; plenty of good older games from when a P3 was a fast machine.
Oh and the PC fits in my hand. Raon Vega.
Most software will run fine on most any PC that you can get these days. Games, of course being the exception. |

Is this a standard Yongsan price, or just one specific place? If I go there (with my appalling lack of computer knowledge, coupled with my pi$$-poor Korean language skills), would it be easy to purchase such a machine? |

| For that ~400k box, can you pull a lower price if you have them just give you the pieces instead of assembling it. |

Not really worth it, because assembly costs are something like 20,000 won.
I assembled my own computer once. After the experience, it was not so exciting, and I decided it was a lot better to just let them do it the next time around. Also, if you make a mistake -- you pay for it, and not them, because you assembled it.
Just have them do it. |
