is there anyway to get north american plugs to work here?

With an adapter and a step-down transformer(if needed), yes. On the rare occasion, a place might have both voltages and US-style sockets along with the Korean-style ones...pretty rare to find that set up though.

Do you mean the wall socket, or just the plug?

Generally, the way to do it is to buy a 220v to 110v step-down transformer, available all over for about 30,000 won or so. If you are near COEX mall at Samsung station on the green subway line, you can buy them at the "Link-O" store. You can find them all over, however.

Some things with AC adapters, like digital cameras and laptops, are able to accept both 220v or 110v current, and will adjust internally. Check the AC adapter "brick" for information as to whether or not it will do this. In such a case, you can use a simple 1,000 won plug adapter on the end of your 110v plug to make it fit into a 220v plug.
