If you turned in your ARC at immi when your old school canceled your VISA, you should have gotten a 14-day exit order. That's gone past by now I'd say, or will soon.
Get to Japan quick and get your new VISA. DO NOT work until you have a valid VISA.

It doesn't matter that your contract starts on Monday. What matters is that you must have a valid visa to work here. At the moment, you do not have that.
If your boss is an unsavory sort, he can shaft you if you do work without a proper visa. It's amazing how he doesn't have to pay any money he owes you after "someone" informs Immigration that you've worked here illegally.
Inform your boss, as the poster above said, that you cannot work in violation of Korean law. Emphasize your respect of Korea and Korean law. Let him know all you need is the visa run to Japan. It should be at his expense. If he balks at either or both, then you're in for more surprises the longer you stay there.
No matter how many times the boss tells you everything's been made right with Immigration or he knows people at Immigration, don't believe him! (After all, the question isn't does he know people at Immigration; it's do people at Immigration know him.) Immigration takes a dim view of foreigners working here without proper visas. Koreans get fined--maybe--but foreigners get put in jail AND fined--definitely. |

no no, no need to cancel your visa issuance, you still use the same # but you just take it with you to Japan...thats all...remember though, be firm with them, they'll send you on the first plane or boat out of korea to japan if you tell them you won't work illegally....they'll want you to work asap, so you'll get sent on monday i'm sure to japan for your run... |
