things are done a little differently here. I have nothing to hide but to me it's the principal of it.
I have a feeling they will let it slide as I'm in the boonies and finding another teacher wouldn't be so easy. If they bring it up I will say yes but stall as much as possible and then graciously resign if they're adament about it. I feel very strongly about privacy issues. I hope it never comes to that.

The principal? Why did you apply for the job then? It states clearly on the website as it does on the contract that all of this must be done. Heck...it's nothing! The police check is fast and cheap. I got mine for $25 Cad. and it came within 2 weeks. The medical is 15 minutes and noting unusual about it at all. A standard physical.
Sounds like there is more here than just a privacy issue if one will quit a job before taking a common physical checkup. Lots of folks on the 4:20 forums say the same thing.
And common it is.
I got my physical done in the middle of nowhere, close to my school. They have nothing there...no big machines, no fancy anything. Just go in, eye check, pee, give some blood, x-ray, quick dental check and it's over. |

Tarheel, in a world where, according to you, there are no absolutes you
must expect imperfect usage of grammar and speling misstakes. |

| I don't teach elementary but here's a pointer: why don't you title your thread 'Making the shift to elementary school' instead of yet, yet, yet another 'Public schools vs. hogwans' threads. |
Yes. That totally needed to be stated. May this be the R.I.P. of these ineptly named threads. |

straying back on topic...
I am also making a switch in terms of work. I started at a hogwan, then did my TESOL certificate, then another hagwon, then a R&D gig which I got laid off from, then public school.
Although it's my first day, it seems pretty laid back. The school is out in Incheon and they are looking for more native speakers from what I understand.
The school went out of their way to get my larger housing because I'm married. So far so good *fingers crossed* |

Everything bothers me. You've been here since '03 and haven't figured that out yet? |

I am enjoying teaching in the elementary schools I am in, I go to 4 different ones. the week is varied and passes fast. Downside - I use 4 different computers so am always emailing lesson plans to myself!
I have not been asked for the health or police checks yet but the one downside I have found is being asked to do extra lessons, on top of those first in the contract. Two schools want 'conversation' lessons from me, after school (but ofcourse still in the time I am contracted for.) its cutting down on my lesson planning time.
otherwise, its a far cry from the hogwon I was in!! the one I left..fast. |

So true!
Makes you wonder if its even more than a 4:20 issue...but definetely and strangely hiding something healthwise. What's the big deal anyways? |

THAT explains why he put his picture up with a swirly face. "Nothing" to hide. |
