Toys 'R' Us Coming to Korea in Dec.
Toys "R" Us, the world's largest toy retailer, plans to open a store in Korea in early December. The store, Korea's first, will open at Lotte Mart in Guro, according to the retail chain on Wednesday. The 2,600 sq.m store will sell 8,000 kinds of toys and children's products.
Lotte Shopping signed an exclusive licensing agreement with the U.S. headquarters of Toys "R" Us last December. The company organized the Toys "R" Us business division earlier this year and began preparations this month to open the shop. A temporary Korean website is online at www.toysrus.co.kr.
The U.S. company will guide the Korean firm in product development, supply and store management. The first Korea store will be like an amusement park with kid-friendly attractions. Lotte Shopping plans to expand the chain next year, opening a second shop at Lotte Mart in Guri with an aim to operate 15 to 20 stores by 2010.
Toys "R" Us has 1,500 stores in 36 nations including the U.S. Globally, the chain records W11 trillion (US$1=W918) in sales annually. |
We all know the prices will be out of line, but I'm really curious as to their selection. |

There are already large toy stores in Korea. The selection will probably be the same as in other Korean stores, just like Walmart in Korea looked more like E-mart than Walmart back home. |

I for one look forward to the sight of the toy makers of Corea guild flinging cow faeces over My Little Pony and Buzz Lightyear whilst the cops nonchalantly look on. |

Oh the joy!! And Gap and Hard Rock Cafe!!
Even more Koreans can be employed in minimum wage jobs and Korea can be 'just like back home'
Why do some people bother travelling at all? |

It's just like Costco has consistently become less and less of a foreign goods store since I have been here. |

You should've seen Costco 4 years ago. |

Toys R Us got their ass kicked in USA by Walmart. Korea is a prime market for them.
Maybe Koreans will refuse to buy from them too. Another bad foreign company coming here to pillage their 우리 나라. |
