Why is the Canadian dollar so strong against the won, and when will it stop?

The bank people attribute the strength of the loonie to two related trends: high oil prices (Canada is a producer and exporter), and record government and trade surpluses, which are partially caused by the oil money coming in. The federal government -and most provincial governments - have been able to score up budget surpluses and pay down their decades-old debts in an era when the US has been racking up higher and higher deficits.

It's funny the government is doing so well when the individuals are not.

Apparently household debt has reached 1 trillion dollars in Canada. And here I am trying to save money in Korea and watching the exchange rate screw me.

Hold onto the won as long as possible, if you don't have credit card debt-the Canadian currency will not stay at .98 USA indefinitely.

Credit card debt-bite the bullet and wipe it out like the unclean thing that it is

Tons of jobs in Newfoundland, if you want to work for minimum wage or at a call centre. Otherwise. .

Ah, okay. I see what they're doing.

"Five fifty an hour to mow lawns IS a job and so it counts. Nyah!"
