The weird thing is that I went out to Itaewon/HongDae tonight, and saw about 20 guys that looked exactly like him.

What was up with that? Was there a Christopher Neil look-a-like contest tonight or what?

"Mr. Oppal said authorities in British Columbia knew about Maple Ridge, B.C., resident Christopher Neil and were in the process of tracking him down when he was confirmed to be in Thailand and subsequently arrested."

Sounds to me like the investigation only began after his identity was revealed. Hardly news since the RCMP would have naturally cooperated with Interpol given that the suspect is Canadian.

I guess that's why "Peter Jackson" was concerned about police checks and knew all about the "different levels" of police checks. If he'd had any convictions I'm sure we would have heard about it by now, but he must have been worried that his dealings with the RCMP would come to light.

Without an arrest or conviction his background check would be clean.

Yeah, in hindsight it seems pretty strange that he worried so much about what can be best described as a formality.

What's it to me if the Korean government wants me to do a background check next time I change jobs... or even now? Sure, it would be an inconvenience, it might even cost me 50$ or even 100$. No big deal...It's not as if it would be a tax grab since the fees wouldn't go to the Korean government. As long as it can be done from here in Korea, I wouldn't mind.
I'd hate to have to fly to my home country just to request a police background check, though.

I saw a Chris Neil lookalike in Hongdae, and I got in a fight with a post-midnight-run Chris Neil.

As Interpol are merely responsible for sharing information between various police forces, that's not really true.

What happened to your 'his friends must have known' thread? It was hilarious. Did you delete it in a moment of clarity or did the mods?

I know someone called Chris and someone called Neil, but I've never seen the two of them together. Very suspect...
