Damn.. I hate how the events that have happened recently - will affect all of us here...
I have already been interrogated by my employers as to why I prefer to teach in elementary schools - and why I have NOT married yet........
All the public schools that I deal with - are already preparing to have all Public school teachers submit a police-report (check) from their foreign teachers...
My employers have asked me how to go about doing this - does it take 6 weeks? 3 months??
Public school principals want to know?? and they want the checks done fast...
Helping my employer - we went about trying to find out how to do it...
The US and Canadian embassy were very helpful - but told us the "teacher" has to come in to the embassy - pay the fee and then it could be done.....
who should pay the fee? the teacher or the employer?
Is there an easier way - and if you have done it before - how long does it take?
it seems to me now - if you are male and single - everyone is chatting about you behind your back... |

I submitted my police check to my OoE when I got the job four months ago, I'm hoping I don't have to do it again. It took 6 weeks and cost me 10 pounds. And they have the original.
But maybe like the degree/teaching cert thing I'm sure I'll be asked again and again for it, even though they've got it three times. |

The school should pay for it, they want it so make them pay for it, they have the money.
If I were you I would take the time to tell them you dont have a criminal record and neither did he (the famous pederass, that is) so they literally are wasting time, energy, and money.
For us Canucks, inform them that any crime committed before your 18th birthday will not come up on a background check (God bless our liberal ways) so for the young newbies it really wont do much good.
But in the end Im sure we will all have to do it anyway, the Canadian Embassy is going to make a mint this year! |

The only discussion of the matter I've had so far is when I've brought the topic up, informing some of my co-workers what's been going on. Otherwise it seems like no one's taking much notice - at least not yet. I don't teach elementary, however. |

Your employers were way out of line and the public schools are doing what should have been done a long time ago. |

I hope they use the funds to improve the services that they offer to Canadian citizens. |

I think being interrogated about why you are not married is plain stupid. Are they making the assumption that because your not married that you are a gay deviant? (I'm not saying you are, just that their questioning kind of implies such a thing).
It's not too surprising Koreans would overreact to such events though. |

Gay? I thought this was all about that freakin idiot Chris Neil and his pedophile a$$. I'm not in Korea yet but HOLY CRAP, am I going to have to deal with that when I get there? Great timing for me I guess. Now, there's gonna be this constant suspicion over me wherever I go for a good 3-6 months. Although, I'm sure this'll pass like everything else does. |

Maybe I was the only one doing this but I noticed that whenever I saw a western male at a crosswalk, I would categorize them as "friendly" or "perverted". |

Whenever I'm at a crosswalk and a Korean is staring at me, I categorize him as a wife beater or someone who cheats on his wife with hookers or both. |

Indeed. Sad to say, but indeed. The balance is frighteningly close too. However, not me. Of course, not me. |
