They are showing some program on tv about a foreigner who has two girlfriends. From what I can gather, he is engaged to one and seeing the other.
I'm getting a translation from my wife. |

It's not Scandal, is it? I watched it yesterday and had a bit of a chuckle when he said something about liking them young, 17-18 year-olds. |

As it's said on this board many times..."When in Rome (Korea) He is just trying to fit in with the culture.
How many Korean men that are married have a girlfriend(s)? They openly talk about it and women openly accept the fact that their husbands go to room saloons, karaokee rooms with women, etc. |

Whoa! This is a TV program.
Sheesh, one thing I know about Korea, is that is VERY COMMON for Korean women to have two boyfriends. Always the one for potential marriage and then whoever else - including a foreigner, although the foreigner would seldom be the one for potential marriage.
Actually the entire society is setup this way. The only way a foreigner could possibly have both a girlfriend and fiance is because both of those women have other guy's on the side so he has a lot of free evenings to even allow something like this to happen. |

I got a real play by play drama that involved one of my gf's friends (both Korean).
The friend was seeing this Swedish guy that seemed very genuine in his interestes in her. He did and said the right things for the time that they had been together, albeit that his advances were aggressive, and mostly denied.
He cried like a baby when he was going home recently, saying that he was going to miss her so much and that he cared for her deeply.
He did not contact her once while he was home, and when he did come back several weeks later, his reason was that he had to take care of his friend that had some allergies.
My gf and I speculated on this at the time that he was home. My conclusion was that he was involved with someone in his own country, and that he was only working his situation while he was here.
BINGO. He dropped the bomb on the Korean girl, after dodging the situation for several days that he had gotten engaged while he was home.
Even after this, he is still trying his best to get with the Korean girl. She made it clear from that point on that they will be nothing more than acquaintences, but old Swedish boy still tries to push the issue as if nothing has changed between them.
This program could have been his brainchild. What a D-bag! |

I don't think Koreans are thinking "OMG, a foreigner is swindling 2 girls at the same time!" and we never do.
That's why I never understand you people who say, "Ohh, but Koreans do it all the time too." (hookers, crime, prostitutes, etc etc.)
It's more like, see, foreigners do this bad stuff too.

No. It's more like , "How can these foreigners dare to do this bad stuff HERE!"
Korea belongs to Koreans. They can do whatever they want and most of the time it will be swept under the carpet. Korea doesn't belong you foreigners, so keep in line if you want to be here. Otherwise expect to find yourself in the spotlight. |
