yep, all that packed into one fun little flash game.
http://www.freerice.com/
simply, test your vocabulary and the website's sponsors will donate 10 grains of rice for every correct answer.
you can also see your vocabulary level (in the bottom corner)
so, test your vocab and donate rice to poor countries.
you could also give this to advanced students, just to see how smart they are!
post your average vocab levels here -
i'll start: my vocab level is 41 ... i donated 600 grains of rice. |

I don't mean to insinuate that this is not a worthwhile thing to do, but in the interest of disclosure, this IS a for-profit enterprise. |

Can you elaborate? How are they making a profit?
Just asking because I find the whole thing to be fishy. So they have a crap load of rice, ready to donate, but first you have to answer some vocabulary questions? Why not just send the rice over? Maybe I need to read over the websites FAQ, but, it's time for me to go home! |

FAQ answered every question you asked. I suppose that's why it's called a FAQ |

oh come on people ...
there are ads on the site ... ads generate views and click throughs. ads are paid for by companies. you spend time on the site, view the ads, the companies spend their money donating rice on your behalf.
you just play the vocab game and more rice is donated. everyone wins.
why the f.u.c.k are people so cynical??
i don't see anything fishy, except companies hoping to get a bit of traffic in return for their donations ... which i think is fair.
how many bags of rice have you personally handed to the United Nations? |
