Hi, I thought a lighthearted poll would be interesting given the tension here as of late.
I assume the the vast majority of us live in apartment buildings or villas.
Please share how high you are from the ground along with any pros and cons about your situation.
Myself, I live on the 15th and last floor of my apt building. Pros, less noise, a splendid view and no one jumping rope in wooden clogs above me. Cons, the top floor means it's hotter in summer and colder in winter. The elevator ride is also longer. |

There's only one floor, ground floor.
My two-bedroom place is a third of what is I guess best called a "triplex".
When I mentioned that to a Seoulite the (mis)understanding was that it was a three-storey or more.

Fantastic! On the hill so still get a nice view of the river valley with no buildings blocking the vista (other one floor buildings down the slope and higher up behind).
The best thing is having no noise above or below. And right outside my door is a garden and orchard on that side of the building.
I lived in a rooftop apartment of a four-storey "villa" when I was teaching on Geoje Island, which was nice, given directly below was a Buddhist temple that made only bell and drum sounds infrequently, always quite faintly heard.
I haven't had to put up with having people live over or under me for a long time, and I'm not sure I ever want to again.

I live on the 13th floor, so every day I have to take the 13th Floor Elevator.
(Please note: this will only be of interest to fans of obscure, pioneering psychedelic 60's garage bands from Texas, and even then, only vaguely so.)
Today, when I was in the lift, it lurched suddenly, then stopped for a while, then displayed "JU" instead of the floor (12), then made some strange noises, started descending jerkily, and then the doors opened on the 11th floor.
I got out and took the stairs. |

I've had 3 apartments.....
apt #1- 3rd floor of 3
apt #2- started on 11th floor then moved down to 3rd floor out of 15
apt #3- 3rd floor of 4 (I hate it too...no elevator so that means going grocery shopping or shopping in general means I get to do a workout bring everything upstairs) |

13th as well. cool number.
pros: good view (of a small mountain and a nicer aparment complex (lol), costs more (stickin it to the hagwon) apparently due to that fact
cons: small (not floor related) and it leads me to a rant about elevators:
is it only korea where each elevator has its own button? the elevators i knew back home, one button would call the nearest elevator. sounds like a stupid complaint, but if you think about it, it really is more efficient than always having two elevators at floor 15 or floor 1.
also i still get mosquitos coming in through the windows. didn't know they flew that high. |

I'm currently living on the first floor of a 5 floor building. Ideal, IMO, is the 2nd floor. My floor is about 4' off the ground, which means that anyone walking toward the building can see in my apt. I have blinds but often can't be bothered to pull them--I don't really like the shut-in feeling. If people want to see me running around in my undies, that is their choice. They don't have to look in.
My last neighbor was very quiet. Last Friday a new couple moved in, then disappeared. I'm waiting to find out if they walk like elephants or are into heavy metal music...or giving piano lessons. |

22nd, and I've been a vertigo sufferer for years!
Apart from the odd dizzy spell from looking out the windows, it's great. Quiet. Plus, when a front window and a back window are open the breeze keeps the apartment pretty cool in Summer. |

18th floor
It's always interesting when someone asks me what floor I live on, I have to get the pronunciation just right or else they'll be offended. |

4th, only because no one else wants to live on the 4th floor. Bad luck and all that. |

I last moved on the 18th of the month. It was fun having all the utilities transferred... |
