My teaching contract will be fulfilled in a few days and I'll be leaving Korea soon, so I thought I'd write down a few thoughts while the experience is still fresh in my mind. Don't expect anything profound.
Adieu to my temporary home and all of it's differences. It's been a great year for me because of Korea, and there are a thousand little things I'll remember about it. I hope they don't fade from memory.
Farewell to my Korean friends. I sincerely hope our paths cross again someday. You're a nation of big hearted people who have extended great kindness to me over and over again.
How naive I was when I first arrived. As much as I like and respect Koreans and the culture, I'm glad I didn't know everything I know now when my plane landed, or I may have been much more cynical about relationships with people. I can live in Korea forever, but will always be an outsider. That's a shame, and I hope it changes someday. Korea will be better for it.
Finally, a few words of praise:
-- to my family back home for the care packages
-- to Apple for the iPod, and to The Who
-- to the nation of Thailand for an unforgettable ten days
-- to Bittorrent. What would I have done without all those movies?
-- to WoW and Astro Empires for filling up all those empty hours
-- to Yahoo IM with voice for unbeatable trans-Pacific goodness
-- to the posters on Dave's, who provided me with endless laughs
Who knows...I may be back. This lifestyle is addictive. |

Im just like you; leaving in a few days. Im not quite as optimistic about the place, but I agree it would be alot better -- bearable, even, to stay for alot longer -- if we were not made to feel unconditionally as outsiders here. |

@ Bippitybop
I have some personal business to take care of that will take a few months to sort out. Otherwise, I might have stayed on. |
