I teach a Science/English class and I was presented with a question I can't seem to find the answer to.

is anyone good at science?

the question was: two cars will have a race. one car is big and heavy and powerful and slow. the other car is small and light and weak and fast.

which one will win the race?

my best guess is it will be a tie race.

It's a race. Al that is neeed for a race is speed. Velocity and acceleration. Handling, power, how strong the car is...doesn't matter.

You teach science and you can't handle a basic question like this? Dude you are in trouble.

Dude, you have no clue what a race is.

If it's a simple drag race, you might be relatively correct. But races are so complex that one never knows what is going to happen. You can't answer the question given 4 incredibly vague adjectives to describe a car.

It also depends on other variables.

1. Distance.
2. Road condition (friction).

The question states that the big car is slow and the small car is fast.
Therefore, shouldn't the small car win the race?

ed,

i think they want the students to compare the adjectives with what they also know about motion, gravity, acceleration and energy (thermodynamics).

i would say yes probably the smaller car would win all other things being equal. it doesn't matter if the smaller car is weak because it's a lighter weight.

on the other hand, if it's a long distance race, the smaller car could possibly break down because of its weakness in which case the larger car would win.

i think the parameters need to be tweaked a bit.

and also yes, i have a B.S. (bachelor's of science).

Okay this is not a science question it is like the other poster said, wanting people to compare adj. the key words are fast and slow. it looks like they are trying to get the students to trip over powerful/slow and weak/fast

This is cartman, you need the algorithm for cartman.

Play the game a few times you'll figure it out.

The science of cart man.

Bring lego into class and play smash ups and races with cars. When you're done, noones gonna care if you know the answer or not.

"Build me a slow car"

Build me a heavy car"

Now lets crash/race..."

You guys are wrong. it's not asking about energy, nor momentum. Mass is irrelevant. So is power. A tractor is "powerful", but you won't see it winning a race.

Newtonian physics.

V=d/t

The only things that matter is the car's velocity. It's speed.
