I have noticed recently that people are now treating their sales like an Ebay auction and waiting for better deals to come in. Some posters appear to be accepting offers then changing their minds and waiting for more money.
It has made me think twice now about buying anything from here. I don't want to send the money to find that the seller has accepted a different offer after the deal is done.
I am willing to offer my services as an ESCROW agent to help with the sales of this new selling style that is being used on here.

I got screwed on a Nintendo DS last summer. I was to meet the guy after his work around 9pm and I had traveled to his side of the city. He wouldn't respond to calls or messages then and had some girl answer his phone in Korean even after I talked to him at the at same handphone number earlier that day. All he had to do was be honest and say he didn't want to sell it, but he was chicken$()it. I hope you are reading this, chicken$()it man. |

the problem is that people won't set a price. they post topics like:
FEELING FOR A PRICE
LOOKING FOR OFFERS
I'M NOT IN A HURRY TO SELL
in the hope that someone will come and offer top dollar. this is the 'rip people off' technique.
i recommend that all sellers should state their price in the thread. haggling is fair if you're seriously interested in buying. however, i think that bullcrap lowball offers are part of the reason people won't post their items or prices.
as with all things on eslcafe ... this forum is full of idiots who think they know best.
caveat emptor!!!!!
btw, having said that, i bought a monitor yesterday, from a post in this forum, and i am happy with the purchase. so it's just a matter of honest buyers meeting honest sellers and hounding the w.ankers out of this forum. |

Maybe it's the Korean way rubbing off on people.
Some people want over the odds, because most essential household items are over-priced here.
My way of agreeing a good deal:
The buyer; Pay what you are happy to pay.
The seller; Accept what you you would be happy to accept.
When the 2 criteia above meet, you have a happy sale with both sides happy.
Leave greed where it belongs, along with the other undesirable character traits. |

i think prices are not getting posted, because within' 10 minutes of the post there are five replies on how overpriced it is and where you can buy it cheaper. even if someone is an idiot, they don't need a bunch of computer nerds telling them they are. |

Not really worried about the prices. It's more the trend of people accepting offers then changing minds that has been appearing recently. |

AMEN to that. Thats what really pisses me off about selling anything here.
Almost every sale turns into an argument about the price, so in the future if I ever sell anything I will not post the price but get people to PM me.
That way I would only get people who REALLY are interested. So many times people make offers (low offers) with no intent on ever buying, its like some kind of sick game where they get a high from getting the price down.
@JustJohn
Off topic I know but I had to laugh at your avatar. Very true to someone who plays FPS games alot!!! |

Putting items up for auction and waiting for the best price is shrewd salesmanship - especially when someone is unsure as to what the market will bear. Individuals are and should always be free to manage their private property any way they please as long as it doesn't infringe on another's freedom.
The Soviets have been dissolved, comrades.
Haggling further or not meeting a commitment after making an agreement is unethical. Period. |

Finally got one...nice too, 5 different attachments and two different blades....busts them banana protein shakes out in nothing flat! Brand new condition and very reasonably priced....you know who you are if you're reading thanks yet again...
On the topic of the sell forum, I offered two different posters their asking price for two different laptops and BOTH have basically fell through...one says wait twos weeks for them to buy a new com (ok this one might not have fallen completely through, but I may decide I don't really need a lappy right now...) and the other is still considering my offer going on 1 month now... |

me too..and I have even sold and continue to sell many things here and I have been guilty of the "no price give me an offer" thing sometimes. |

Selling on here can be compared in two ways:
1) You sell your item with a price stated and get constantly chided, shot down and told how much of a piece of crap it is and how much of a thief you are/ or fool someone would be to buy it, like selling it in a PAWN SHOP.
2) You ask for people to PM you with offers and conduct business via PM, thereby leaving out the rest of the "circus". This is like selling at a GARAGE SALE. Still room for haggling but with no need for countless insults, disparaging comments etc.
Now which would YOU choose? |
