I know this is Daves "ESL" cafe, but does anyone know if there might be a Migrant Worker thread? Or if there might be a forum for migrant workers similar to Daves? |

I'd love to read it if there was. Or a forum for russians or chinese living in Korea. |

Yeah, after working for 15 hours a day, 6 days a week, I imagine they have nothing better to do in their free time then to post on Dave's. If you want to talk to migrant workers, they're pretty easy to find. |

The migrant workers union has a website and used to have a forum on it as well. I don't have the link handy. |

We are officially considered to be "professional" workers and although our visas are only for 1 (E2) or 2 (E1/7) years AND we can renew them repeatedly without a maximum on the number of times we can obtain a visa or renew/extend a visa.
The common reference to "migrant workers" are those foreigners in the D.D.D. jobs and they have a maximum time in the country of 4 years. These workers are commonly on the "industrial trainee program" or the work permit system.

I know the Indonesian community here keeps in touch through Yahoo email lists that you have to sign on for. That includes a large number of postgrad students and a few 3D workers as well as spouses. Best place to talk to migrant workers would be in Ansan on a Sunday, just check around the restaurants. You're more likely to get someone who speaks English if you talk to Philippinos or people from the sub-continent. |
