|
|
I am set to be arriving in Korea within 2 weeks but I am worried that my E2 work visa will not be processed in time. Will I have to delay my departure? Or can I still enter the country and just wait until the visa is processed?
I am supposed to be recieving some kind of temp # that I have to take to my Korean consulate. Will the # alone be enough to allow me entry into the country?
Thanks for any and all help. |

Don't go to korea without the working E2 visa or you will enter Korea as a tourist. Just wait for them to process the visa. If they really want you, they will process the visa quickly enough for you to come in 2 weeks.
And yes, you will receive a visa issuance number which you bring to the comsulate along with whatever else you need. |

Actually, they can fly you over if the visa is not set yet.
Remember though, in that case, that you are still entering as a tourist. What is normally expected by them is for you to still work even on a tourist visa (which is actually illegal), and then quickly do a 'visa run' when you have your visa issuance number. This 'visa run' means that you leave the country in order to get your work visa.
If you play by the book, then wait for them to give you a visa issuance number. |

So this is something I can do once I get there?
From what I've been reading it is very common, but how illegal is it?
Is it a small fine if I get caught, or would I have to leave the country.
The school would tell me if they were flying me in and I would have to do a VISA run in japan ahead of time, right? |

It is NOT that common for people who are hired from abroad.
If you are awaiting your visa confirmation number, quit sweating it. You are putting the cart before the horse.
-Your school is waiting your number now. This usually only takes a week or less.
-You get your number via e-mail. This takes a few minutes after your school gets it.
-You take a trip to the Korean consulate and get your visa in your passport. This can take anywhere from 1-5 days.
-You get on the plane.
Doing a visa run is adding about $700 in unnecessary additional costs to the process and there is NO reason for it. If you boss is waiting for the visa confirmation number they may not pay for it.
If you come here without the visa in your passport you would be working illegally. Why in ghods name would you want to work illegally and face the consequences when you don't have to?
Patience is a virtue - take it out of your closet and give it a walk. It will do you some good.
