So I just got told today that the Changwon Board of Education needs a copy of my degree and a police check, even though I submitted my original degree and a police check when I first got this job. Why? When I asked my co-teacher he said it was because of some problems with foreigners using fake degrees and taking drugs. He also described this as something that mostly happens in hagwons in Seoul - can't read the Korean news myself so I don't know if that is the angle they've been taking, though I can't see where else he would have gotten this idea from.

Anyone else had to recently resubmit degrees/police checks?

Exactly the same in my case. There's an information sheet on how to locate universities on the Internet. For the UK it's wikipedia's list of British universities. Perhaps we could go add some to the list. I'd personally like a PhD in edutainment from Python University of Monty.

Lots of the GEPIK teachers have had to in one way or another verify the validity of their degree ... several different methods ... but doing same thing.

I've been working for a K public school for 8 months. I got asked for my degree yesterday (photocopies only). Now that's what I call checking!

I was asked by one of the public schools I teach at to submit my ARC number to the local education board so they could check my credentials. There doesn't seem to be anything more to it than just making sure I am legal (I am, and then some).

I imagine once the dust settles from this latest bout of foreigner-bashing everything will return to normal. Until the next feeding frenzy by the media.

I've just been asked for degree verification and a criminal record check today. This is from the Chungchongbukdo Education Board.

me too. The Educatoin Board suddenly wants another copy of my degree, transcript, criminal background check, and medical checkup, today. They must have lost the old ones.

Haven't heard boo ... yet. I'm wondering if this latest round of bollox is aimed at public schoolers and hagwon people only. I hope so. I can't be arsed going to immi again this year.

I don't mind so much if it's kept reasonable, but if they start wanting me to go through a repeat of the degree/medical/background/transcripts thing again I think that's about where I step off.

It's enough to have done it twice already I think.

Hard to tell. I honestly think Bethesda dropped the ball on Oblivion. In terms of gameplay, I think it was a step down from Morrowind. Sure, it was flashy and next-gen, but I'm playing RPG's for the story/gameplay, not the graphics.

However, they're taking great pains to keep the "feel" of the Fallout games... if they can do that effectively, it's going to be amazing.
