My fiancee and I are flying home on December 22 into Los Angeles. From Los Angeles we are taking a connecting flight to San Diego. Our flight arrives in LA at 8:20 am and our flight to San Diego is at 11 am.
Here are our questions:
Will this be enough time to go through immigration and customs and still make our connecting flight? We will also have a dog as carry on luggage with us, so I don't know how that will effect the process.
Will our checked luggage be transfered to our connecting flight or will we have to claim it and then check it again?
Does anyone have experience flying into LAX and connecting to another flight?
Thanks in advance for any insight and suggestions. |

your checked baggage will follow you onto your next flight. You don't have to touch it.
Once you touch down, you will have to go to a different desk to get your new boarding pass (unless you get it at your first check in counter).
Having the pet, assuming it's carry on, is of no concequence until you go through immigration. |

Sorry, kyber, not true.
In the good ole US of A, you have to claim your baggage at your FIRST port of entry (although this is done in teh secure area, not the same place you usually claim baggage). You have to do this even if you were connecting on to another country.
So, when you get off the plane, follow all the otehr passengers to the baggage area. You'lll claim your luggage and then give it to a guard who will put it back through where it will be put on your next plane. Then you will go through immigration and customs. Then you will go transfer to your next flight. It sounds like you should have plenty of time. |

have had the same amount of time at sfo several times with no problems. first step is immigration, you'll whiz through that, then baggage claim/customs, they are just as slow offloading luggage as on the regular side. get it, hand your customs form to the person, be sure to smile and be nice to them so they wont pick you out for a random search. recheck your bags which is putting it back on a conveyor and off you go.
i've been through it in around 30 mins. big problem may be going back through security to your connecting flight. if you are on the same airline they should be able to issue your connecting flight boarding passes here |

Thanks for the info, that really helps. I just hope with it being three days before Christmas, and on a Saturday, that there are not extra hiccups. |

I'm not sure about this but I was just reading up about traveling with pets. Christmas is a blackout period...no pets allowed. Your airline might be different of course but just in case I thought you should know. |
