This is where you're wrong, you do need a degree to teach even if you are on an F-series VISA.

Could you provide a link for that?

He's right. Even if you're working in a hagwon, in order to be legit, you must present your university diploma to the local MoE. Same is true for Korean teachers. Look it up yaself, ya lazy sod.

By whom and for what? It's not your problem--it's theirs.

Yes, I know that. I didn't mean I'm cooked as in fired, I meant cooked as in getting hassled and harrassed into quitting like jade was. If you can't pull up your credentials online in 5 seconds, you're suspect? Rolling Eyes

Does this method actually catch any illegal teachers or peds? I don't think so. It's another thing done just for appearances that's a pain in the arse for real teachers. I think it's a good idea to have background checks, but talk about going about it the wrong way.

And to think some people would have us believe that South Koreans are the second smartest race in the world. Laughing

Not sure about smart, but no prizes here for thinking outside the box. In implementing this piece of 'policy on the hop', the authorities have assumed that a). our alumni ties are exactly like theirs and b). everyone who went to university working so did so in the internet age.

Yeah, I don't worry about it, or care. Just remind them about Ms. Shin.

Talk about a friggin' witch hunt. Big Brother Korea is turning teacher off to teaching here. No wonder they have so many jobs available here.

I wonder how many teachers will get stung.

These events are turning my mouth sour.

I doubt their will be any government officials at KOTESOL this weekend but perhaps there will be some sort of seminar or gripe session to bring it up.

I also had to verify my degree this morning. Fifth time in 2.5 years. F--king ridiculous. I've decided that if they ask me for one more document, and I mean ANYTHING, this will be my last contract in Korea. I'm sick of working with the clueless.

Technically.......................yes....................but.....................

if you have an F2 why the hell would you be working at a HAGWON? Pick up corporate classes and privates. Corporations do not fall under MoE jurisdiction and it might be possible to find a company that would take you if you dont have a diploma. It should be quite easy to find privates.

The problem isn't that their Universities don't have web pages. It's that they don't have a page where graduates can log in and prove they attended that University.

True, working for companies does not require the diploma, but the original thought was working in a public school on an F2 DOES require a diploma as it's an MOE requirement.

I work in a hagwon on my F2 because it's allowing me free housing to save money, giving me more experience at different levels, and meeting lots of kids and their parents who love me and will gladly pay me for privates next year when I go to start my own Study Room.

It's all about putting in the time to get your plan set in motion.

I guess this will be my last year then. I can't access that information either.

I tried one time because it was interesting and it stated that I wasn't a current student and couldn't access it.

I will have to wait and see what happens but maybe its just time to leave. I always knew when they started asking for confirmation of my degrees that a day would come when I wasn't able to provide them with the added requirement.

I guess, its probably going to be back to home for me and start doing my masters.

What the *beep*?

Assuming it's still valid after all of this time, I was issued the ID and password ten years ago and never used it. If anyone thinks I can remember that, they're deluding themselves.

My husband and I who work at Busan public schoools have both been asked. We can't login to anything except hte part that lets you update your address info. It was in a totally separate part from teh registrar's office. I was lucky I found it. Perhaps if some of you poke around on your website a bit there will be SOMETHING that will satisfy this nonsense. Our uni webpage only requires our SSN and Last name to log into this contact information part.
The whole thing is completely ridiculous. By logging in, I prove that I was once a student, could have been for one class or for a full degree. There's no way to know. Of course, it obviously does prove that I'm not a pedo. No doubt about htat one Rolling Eyes

Like I said before, SEALED TRANSCRIPTS MEAN JACK SH*T!!!!

Anyone who forges a fake degree can easily get a white envelope, print off a few pages of a fake transcript. Seal it and put a stamp across the back that says "Official".

What is it about "sealed transcripts" that make people believe they are holy writs from the heavens that can not be forged or duplicated?

Just because Immigration has your sealed transcripts doesn't prove anything.
