Frustrating, teaching some books, including story books, well beyond ability of students, in pretty much all my classes.

Harry Potter among them. Yikes. Way out of their league. I don't know why they were chosen, but they are it till February. Mainly I read and do summaries for students because they are unable to read the books.

It was just a bad idea. Some classes are painful working with materials way too ambitious. I'd like to shift horses in midstream. Some time gets wasted due to inability to do material.

I encounter this a lot. No one asks you, do they? I know my kids. I can look at a book and in 10 seconds I can tell if the kids can handle it. But rarely do they ask me, the guy who KNOWS what his kids are capable of. I dunno. It is just like "oh look parents, look at all the advanced crazy english your kid is tackling. Yes! He's a lil genius. Aren't you glad you didn't send him to that other hagwon that is going to be wasting your genius's time with learning how to pronounce 'fish' properly?"

What I did was go to a book store and buy some books (on the school's account with their permission) I felt they could handle. I showed them to my boss, showed them to the other teachers who were going to teach from it, and we all voted from a few different options. In the end, my books were chosen. Show some initiative, bosses love it. Good luck.
