Folks,

I'm in the market for a notebook under 4 lbs. Leaning towards a Lenovo Thinkpad X61. Does anyone have 1st hand experience with this model?

An alternative recommendation is welcomed as well

Thanks!

I've never used that particular model of Thinkpad, but my experience with them has been very positive. If I were ever forced to give up my iBook and go with a Windows machine, I'd buy a Thinkpad.

it's got nice reviews here though the screen size is a little large at 12.1" I've currently got a 12.1" laptop that I am finding to be a little bulky. It's not just the weight it's how freaking big it is reducing it's portability and I take it with me on the subway every day. The next laptop that I buy will definitely be a 8" or 10" model.

Anyhow is this model available in Korea?

OT: Super Hero, you need to change your signature. Macintosh releases as many computers as Windows does. Apple is the computer company.

I'm thinking of getting this number. It weighs in at 1.2#.

X61-T is the one to go for.Pay that little extra for the tablet feature.

For an even lighter model go for the Asus EEE - now released and in the wild. Not a high end maching but under a kilo in weight.

I would advise against the Sony UX. It's a sexy little number for sure, but from reports I've read the keyboard is virtually unusable, the battery life is poor and it is very, very expensive.

If you want a similar specced/sized machine, go for the OQO2. This has a much better keyboard.

If you want same size, lower specs but excellent battery life, go for the Raon Everun. This is made in Korea so it's probably easier to get a good deal. Price is considerably lower than the Sony.

If you're looking for something in the 8" range, I would definitely consider the Fujitsu P1610. 8.9" touchscreen. I've used a friend's and it really is excellent.

That's what I have. It's not for serious work (what laptop is?) but it's less than a kilo and I have no problem taking it anywhere. It's the ultimate bring to work and travel machine.

I read somewhere that it's coming out in the next few weeks (November time), however it's a little more expensive than the $100 it was originally expected to go for. I think there are a couple of versions, one about $300, another $400. I think it depends on the storage inside.
